rosie had surgery 4 weeks ago to remove part of her splint bone inside leg off- hind. as the slilly horse stood on herself and shattered it. vet was out today and was very pleased post surgery and said no more surgical dressings just stable bandage to prevent it from swelling. she still needs to stay on box rest for another 4-6 weeks which is doing my head in as she needs a pal all the time so i find myself jugling horses all the time. anyway not sure how sound she is but at least she is on the mend i am so pleased with the progress. how do you think its looking??

Coo what crappy luck. Some horses just can't help themselves it seems!

It looks like she has a patch of necrotic skin on the front of the cannon bone, generally they just slough away. Prolly a very slight variation in pressure when she was bandaged has caused that. The wound itself looks like it's healing really well. I bet she can't wait to scratch it! Must be driving her nuts. When her wound is healed completely you might find it helps to rub vitamin e into it. It really keeps the scar supple and more comfortable. The cheapest way to do it is to buy capsules, say from Holland & Barrett, stick a pin in it and squeeze onto the scar, then smooth well in. It's really sticky and will gradually soak in. Edible capsules have a higher percentage of vit E than most creams do and it works well.

Still she looks in lovely condition and very happy and contented, especially since she has been in the box so long. Let's hope the next 6 weeks fly by!
