Rough handling of someone's horse wwyd?

Firstly, Holy S*** regarding the incidents caught on CCTV. But if she didn't seem to realise how wrong it was, why did she wait until the yard was empty to dole out abuse?

I think there are a lot of sociopaths as well as a smattering of psychopaths that are drawn into the horse world because their victims can't speak.

I have to totally agree here and have come across way more of them in the horse world than anywhere else. Its given me the tools to spot it in my workplace too and act appropriately!

GW - I am not sure what you can do - maybe keep an eye on it and your own horses behaviour. I would covertly start looking around if I were you, you may need a back up plan sooner than you think, if you say something or not.

See the problem I have is that I rely on the yard due to my work, I can be in Scotland one day and Cornwall the next. To find 4 full livery places in one go is going to be difficult. Speaking up could end up with worse treatment of your own.... It's horrid x

You want to speak up so your horses are treated correctly, speak up with the confidence they will receive better treatment, and forget fearful ‘what if’s’ scenarios.

Filming this bad treatment youve seen as already mentioned might be worthwhile to prove your case, to show to the YO only, as i highly doubt this person does this infront of the YO.

It may help it was the yard owners horses she was joining yesterday. So will wait to catch yard owner on a face to face. I think the other girls/lads are starting to notice normal good horses being head shy and iffy. It's still a horrid situation. If I had 1 or 2 it's easy to resolve but 4 is a nightmare. I hate animal abuse, they can't phone a friend and if they lash out they get even more abusive.
I will film her next time I hope there is not a next time, but pretty sure there will be.
Thanks all x

And having fostered for many , many years I am still utterly aghast that the two ' go to ' careers for children with ' behavioural difficulties ' are working with animals or childcare .

Oh, she knew it was wrong, it was just how wrong that had passed her by, in that she was amazed to lose her job. She tried to justify it as discipline too. Plus told anyone that listened that we were not a good horse place. I had to sit on my hands not to retaliate and go tell people the truth TBH!

Your way better than me, i would have posted the footage on Facebook and named and shamed.

I’d have a talk with YO/YM about the grooms “rough” treatment of the horses. I would be polite about it, but also very clear that it’s not acceptable to handle horses that way and that I would expect YO/YM to have a chat with the groom. And also, that I did not want my name mentioned when they have that talk.

I would be speaking to whoever is in charge. My horse would not react well to rough handling. He‘s already a swine to catch for others and very head shy.

Years back, a full livery spoke to the ym about a couple of the helpers being heavy handed with her horse. One of them told her to smack the horse when he was reluctant to do something. Turns out he was displaying signs of navicular so wasn’t going to pick up a foot. Luckily, our ym is brilliant and extremely understanding. She took on the horse instead.

In my case it was the Yard Manager who was aggressive towards the horses. The YO wasn't involved in the yard so I had no-one to go to about the situation. I found a new yard for mine and moved quickly. I also told the owner of the horse who had been kicked in the guts by the YM what happened. They didn't move their horse and I was later told that it had 'mysteriously' fractured its skull some time after I had left.

That’s horrific ?
