Stiggy and his field mate (who is nearly two) DO play quite rough, and just lately Stiggy is starting to come in missing chunks of mane (his forelock looks like a bunch of manky moths got it!).
Yesterday however I noticed he is rubbing his neck and bum on one of the tree's, and has rubbed a bald patch on his face.
He IS halfway through loosing the winter coat, and this might be a factor (although he didn't do this last year).
His skin is fine, and there are no "backpackers" to be found......
Do these "No itch" products work, and if so which ones work best?
Or the mane just more likely to be rough housing with his mate, and the itching something totally different?

mine are both losin their winter coats and are so vey itchy!! and babies play.. so i would say its different! just bath them and use one of those blade things to get their old coat out. if it continues... it may be something else!

quote - 'back packers'... haha!! :)

It's fantastic! We used it on the shetland, the cob, the dog! lol It's a metal loop with points, you run it over the horse and it grabs hold of loose hair good for grooming mud off too, no idea what its called, will try to find a pic!

Its called a shedding blade

The other thing to watch is to have a look under their tail for white substance - pinworms are hard to eradicate with standard worming and can make them really itchy

Shedding blade!!! LOL
Am not sure how close I would be able to get to him with one of those, he still has moments if he see's the farriers rasp, have to dig one out the grooming kits and see!

They seem to really enjoy being "scratched" with it, brings all the scurf out too... sure he won't mind, if he is ok with being groomed with a dandy brush, just don't show him what you're doing and make a big deal of it,and sure he will enjoy you itching him hehe xx
