Roughly how much would a horse like this cost per month?

A horse at work may be given away soon and I was told I should have her. I'd be happy to take her on but want to know how much roughly she'd cost me per month. So heres a bit about her ...

Shes a 15.2hh(ish) TB 3 year old filly, was broken in to race but because of circumstances she has been out of training for a few months (was only broken in around September time) and so has never raced. She could easily live out all year round with no shoes on, with rugs and feed in the winter as she keeps wieght on very well and has good feet.

Having a mind block so cant really think of anything else lol .. so if any people who have horses like this could let me know how much they cost per month ... I generally have around £400 per month spare (which I was spending on Ted but I'd have to give him up if I was to get this girly) and was wondering if that would be enough? I dont want to buy a horse and then realise that I cant afford to keep her.

I have 3 horses and out of the three my TB is the most costly and the most high maintenance, shes a very very poor doer and is so accident prone, my 2 other friends with TBs also find thiers are accident prone to so if you do take her be sure to have her insured! She currently eats around 1 - 1.5 bales per day and she is kept in at night - she couldn't cope outside (she is a wimp!)
On the other hand shes a dream to handle, really quiet hack and very sensible and shes only 4.
TBH, although i love her dearly and wont be selling her etc i wouldn't have another TB again, mainly because she is hugely expensive!!
 
What makes you think she could easily live out - if she has only been broken since September she would never have been proper riding fit so would carry good condition - Now dont get me wrong she might live out but being a TB i wouldnt count on it i have a 9 year old real good doer that last year i tried the live out thing with rugs and half clip and loads of grub and haylage and he quickly lost condition where as the year before He lived out unclipped unridden thinner rugs and grub he was the size of a house - Certainly suprised me - Trouble with them is they lose condition quite fast and it takes a fair bit to get it back and if you are trying to do it on a budget......

Depending on the cost of your livery, any horse would cost a minimum of £200 a month, to include shoes, feed, hay, supplements, but this would not include any vets bills/insurance/tack, so if you have a dissposable income of £400 I would think it would easy to afford, good luck if you decide to have her.
 
My friends now 30 yr old ex chaser TB mare has lived out perfectly happily for the last 20 years....no problem.

My costs for two living out 24/7 are currently around £170 each inc trimming, all feed, wormers etc
 
If you are DIY i should think so.
My TB is as good doer but quite high maintenance in terms of vets and farriers.
However if you took away the £210 a month to keep him on part livery as I work full time and live a long way from the yard, he would be well under £400 a month.
 
My TB doesn't really cost me anymore than my pony, hes a very good doer and is currently barefoot, but having them back on in a couple of weeks. However I dont think he'd like living out, he goes out in the day and is at the gate waiting at 5pm! But it depends on the horse, i've known many tb's that are happy living out.

Depending on the cost of your livery i think you should be able to keep her for £400 especially if its grass livery

She lived out for a long time before being in .. But you are right that when being ridden she could well lose condition .. but if I do get her my plan is to turn her away for a few months over winter so with a rug and food I think she'd cope living out as shes quite hardy anyway .. Even with all that the yards near me where I'd keep her, the horses live out in summer and in at night in the winter so it wouldnt really be much of an option for her to live out over winter lol. thanks again ill be sure to let you all know if I get her

My TB costs: £130 a week part livery. £15 a week in suppliments. £40 a month insurance. £65 a month shoes.

Total a month is £685 approx.
PLUS:-
???vets fees.
Dentist twice a year - £90
Saddler twice a year - £80
Back check once a year - £100
worming - £50
Buying him new stuff that he wears out like brushing boots, and other stuff, rugs, creams, fly sprays in the summer is expensive, etc

luckily my livery wont be anywhere near as much as that (two paces im considering one is £85 a month and the other is £25 a week) so alone that makes it a lot less ...
 
£400 a month will easily cover that, if you do keep her out 24/7 it will be a fraction of that.
I am on part livery with a poor doer and it comes in under £400. Even if she only lives out in summer and you are on DIY in winter if should easily come in under £250
