my horse was going through about 5 small bales a week, at £3 a bale working out at £15 a week.

last sat i got a round bale delivered which cost £30... a week later, its has all gone:eek: wont be doing that again then:rolleyes:

lol! I was going to say that's cheap!

Small bales of hayledge/hay are about £8 around here.

Large round bales of hayledge are £40-45. (one of those last 2 big horses and a cob 2 weeks)

Our YO (farmer) supplies our hay. We have just started using his round bales (previously were using up square bales he'd bought in at the end of last winter) and he's charging £40 a bale. However it's lovely hay and last winter his round bales lasted 3-4 weeks for my horse so I don't think thats too bad really.

I am surprised your horse got through an entire bale in the same amount of time it usually only goes through 5 small bales. A round bale is normally equivalent of 10-15 bales. A large round lasts 3 of our large horses 6 days and that is adlib in the field.

Hay/haylage is around £25-£30 per round bale round here which I don't think is too bad, because small bales are costing around £4 at the cheapest...

I use round bale, but I roll off the quantity I want to feed. Most of mine are ad lib .. but after a certain amount of hay they leave the same quantity. So if they're leave let's say half a slice overnight when they have a whole bale, if I give them two whole bales the same half slice gets left ;)

We get 2 big oblong bales a week delivered and that is lasting us a week with 14 horses varying from the 2 *****lands up to the big 16hh cob that all live out so hay is ad-lib

I *think* we are paying £30 a bale

Last year I paid £25 per round bale haylage, now it's £35 and guy says he's going to charge £45 possibly £50 after Christmas-one bale lasts me 5 or 6 days! Nightmare! If we get a good summer 2011, will it go down again????

I'm currently working my way through a round bale (which I paid £30 for.. it's last years!) It's been 2 weeks and we're going through a lot at the mo! large horse who eats lots and currently on 4 large haynets a day!
Going back to my original supplier as I find the current hay quality is not nice.. lots of prickly bits :P He has hay all year round and charges £35.

Oblong bales (about six feet by three feet by three feet). Cost £30 each including delivery. My four are going through one on average in three days.

Ouch.

That's cheap, I've just bought 4 of those bales at £50 each! This included delivery but just from 4 miles away. He's got plenty if I need any more (I'm not surprised at that price!) but that's the going price round here. My horse lives out 24/7 so I have to ensure that he has plenty of hay in the field. Why did I think grass livery would be cheap!
