Possibly a daft question but...

My horse is a picky eater. She'll normally eat half her feed and leave the bits in the edges of the trug. If I shake her trug up and put it back in the middle, she'll then go back and eat the rest. Basically, she'll eat if it's REALLY easy to get to, but would otherwise prefer to eat her hay, thanks.

The problem is that she's PSSM, so needs the vitamin E supplement in her feed. And, believe me, I've tried every feed going and this is the only one that she'll eat with any reliability.

I've tried emptying it onto the floor, but then she just tramples on it, mixes her bed with it, and eats even less.

At the moment, she has a standard trug like this:

Is there a feed bucket without corners? Something that's half a sphere inside, almost like a giant mixing bowl?

My old chap has problems getting into the 'corners' of his bowl - I run a wooden spoon round the bottom edge of the bowl once his feed is soaked, and pile it into the middle before giving it to him. Would that help?

The problem is that she's often fed by yard staff/other liveries, rather than me, so it really needs to be something that doesn't require extra input. But that's a good idea for the times when I feed her - thank you!

I was having difficulty getting supplements into my mare. I started using a cup or so of cheapy Tesco apple juice mixed into her feed and now she licks out the awkward bits of the bucket.

I tried that, before her PSSM diagnosis. She refused to eat her feed at all for a week.

Also, as she's PSSM, additional sugar is a terrible idea. She's already on a feed with higher sugar/starch than I'd like (Saracen Re-Leve) but it's the only one she'll eat with any reliability.

Recycled tyre buckets are a lot better, I have a horse the same. I bought the biggest one, it makes the edges even more accessible. They aren't expensive either.

Mine does this and I genuinely thought she was the only horse in the world too fussy to clear out the corners!! I find the black tyre buckets as suggested by others are much better, as they are wider, shallower and just don't have as much of a corner. Otherwise, I try to feed her myself as much as possible and just shake out the corners for her.

I've got a round plastic bowl in my small galley sink. I got it from (I think) Aldi. Otherwise, I think the sheep trough or the rubber tyre/rubber bowl are the best options. Good luck in your search!

I use a shallow tray essentially it's flat and easy to get to and just a small lip to stop feed going everywhere
