I've got a vetting booked for my new horse, and I'm preparing to bring him home.
He is currently woken up at 3:30 by the owner due to work commitments and is turned out by 5:30am which is way earlier than I'm gonna be able to do in the long term. How would you increase the time stabled in the morning to make him as comfortable as possible moving to a new home? He will have turnout all through the day so he won't lack this, just wondering how to help him adjust best as possible.
Thank you! :)

I would say not to over think it. When you’ve got him home will there be others being fed and done at the same time? If he’s got others in who are settled I’m sure he won’t worry provided he has food and company and then is out all day.

Hi OP - firstly, good luck with the vetting!

I'm sure others will come along and give you some more balanced advice, but personally I am very much in favour of a 'get on with it and they go with the flow' approach. It will be an adjustment for him moving homes anyway, I would start as you mean to go on and then adjust back if something isn't working. I'm assuming he will be moving onto a livery yard, so there will be others in a similar routine to what you will be doing?

If he is particularly highly strung or quirky in temperament I might approach it differently, by the majority of horses will adapt and be fine.

Please let us know how the vetting goes :)

I have a definite routine on my yard and find new liveries are often surprised at how well their horses settle here. I am suure it's because they take their cues from the other horses here who are so familiar with the routine so if he has company already in your proposed routine I think he'll be fine.
