Will try and make this quick but do have 3 days to report on!
Decided my aim for this weekend at Rowallan awhile ago – wanted to see if we were both fit enough to do 3 days of showjumping eeep. And try and get back into the swing of BSJAing as Shaun hasn’t been to an indoor show for about 6months I think?

Friday
Everything went pretty smoothly in getting lift etc, got him settled in the stable and waited to walk the newcomers, and had also entered in 1m15! Had 2 down in both classes as he was very yeeehaa

! (think he is still in XC mode), but managed to come 6th in the newcomers...so got a new shiney rosette. Tucked him up for the night, and had an early night myself!

Saturday
So decided today would do the newcomers again to try and settle him! If he was ok, i would walk the foxhunter and see how it felt...then maybe give it a shot! So didn’t start jumping until about 2ish, and had walked him out for some grass for an hour inhand in the morning! But got to say he was a proper @rse in the warm up

! Flying into the fences and generally not listening! So gave up on that idea..still had a few to go before me so trotted him round the complex twice to try and settle him came back into the warm up and popped once fence and went in! Well Shaun was flying again – we had 2 down, as he was just acting like he knew best and wouldn’t listen to me, felt like i rode him okish considering though..haha!

So onto the biggy..thought what the hell will enter the foxhunter and pull out if needs be! Walked the course with my YO who really helps me settle! Both decided we would see what he was like in warm up and take if from there...well hopped on and felt like a different horse! Nice and chilled..popped 2 fences in warm up! Totally blanked out the thought we were jumping our 1st fox and just went in! Well what can i say my pony pulled it out the bag...clear all the way...and it felt like i was jumping a showjumper...not the skitty horse like he was in the newcomers

! So i was bouncing off the walls when i came out! (think i’d forgotten at this point i had to go in and jump the 1m30 JO oops)

Haha so felt kinda ill when i realised i had to go in and jump 1m30 which will be the biggest we will have jumped to date....! YIKES! Got the jump course in my head, and disappeared off smartish so i didn’t see the height of the fences
wink.gif
! Hopped on just popped two fences again and went in! Well....didnt go for speed just wanted us to gain experience, and for me to get the right lines to it gave both of us a chance! Jumped clear all the way until the last – which was a meaty upright...just had that down behind as i buried him

but what an honest pony to keep coming! Felt awesome and so smooth, esp when i went in and saw the height and widths of the oxers and spreads! Jeepers!!

Sunday
Decided against jumping in 2 classes today, as think the fox took quite a lot out of both of us..! did the newcomers again and got into the JO and had one down
smirk.gif
! Pleased though as we were both shattered and i buried him again – bad me! Need to really sort that out, lots of practice to be done!

So all in all a very good weekend, only one placing..but we jumped our 1st fox and i think our result was pretty good – seeing the majority in the class were pro’s! Think im starting to realise that i may have quite a serious showjumper in Shaun...so onwards and upwards
Next stop Rowallan in Dec, where we might try our 1st shot at qualifying for the Royal Highland show..

Lovely to meet Joss who somehow recognised my horse! Bruno is gorgeous – think you helped to chill us both out with the hack round!
Pics to follow – I pestered John Stevens so he got a few decent pics of us in the fox jump off!!
Thanks for reading...its a bit epic! Sarah x

Well done you. Really good effort. I have done lots of BE Intermediates & even 1 AI & I have never managed to pluck up the courage to do a Fox

Watched you in Newcomers JO & you were pretty unlucky to have the pole, you didnt really bury him & would have been excused in thinking the water tray would get him into the air over that one - it was a nice round.

Very jealous of you managing 3 days jumping, Bruno could've done with that! Lovely to meet you & see you again soon.

Hey hon what a positive report! Obviously I missed Joss AGAIN at the show, will catch up with her eventually... Can't wait to see the piccies, dread to think how bad mine will be after his lordship's performance yesterday. The guy he came from was watching yesterday and he was giving me some suggestions when I dropped him down to the airport last night and Mike's on a mission to get me sorted so fingers crossed for the next one. You sooo have to qualify for the Highland, that would be cool!

JB - I think I did see you, from the comfort of the nice warm cafe. I was mid-chip at the time so couldnt rush out to say hello. Next time.....

Were you there yesterday? I had a very stressful show, we rode our first lot out then I called to see where they were at and was told 'just walking newcomers'. Said to Mike and suggested that we might do the second lot then go to the show and catch the third lot when we got back. We finished the second lot and he decided that we'd just do the third lot while we were on a roll cue me stressing! Did the third lot then quickly fired boots on and tack in, horses on and away - arrived with 10 left to go in the 1.10m open and I hadn't even got changed... Managed to trot round the practice ring once, canter round twice, about 6 fences then in - no wonder we had such a disaster in the ring really... How did you go?

Joss – ah thank you! That means a lot! Think he was knackered and so was i! Onwards and upwards, you should stable next time!

Jen honestly im thinking it felt a lot worse than it looked – you were unlucky to have the poles! Think he just needs to be more chilled, which is a tough task seeing as you had to rush to get to Row?

Figjam – never say never, i remember this time last year looking at schedules and thinking we would never get there...so pleased we are now though! I just cling on like a limpit and Shaun does all the work

Bogpony – no def not! Think eventing this year has helped his confidence no end if im honest

Sarah reckon it must have felt worse than it looked, cos Mike said it wasn't that bad - just that I should have cut into the green one instead of galloping round the back and letting him fall on his nose - if I'd done that I'd probably not have had it, and then I'd have given him the room for the one after it that he had as well. At least he jumped the water ok, you know what he can be like with them! Got stressage in a fortnight but then will be getting stuck right in. Rushing to the shows isn't as stressful as it used to be, I'm totally used to it now lol!

Next Rowallan I'd think - we're too busy with the pointers to be venturing much further afield really. First race 5 weeks yesterday, can't wait! Winter is SJ regrouping time, got plenty to work away at but Mike talking about getting Madge out more (he'd have won that yesterday if he hadn't had a pole - he was within . something of a second and he slowed up to the last knowing he'd had a fence!) so we should get at least once a month - better than nothing and probably not so bad now I've got boring grown-up stuff like mortgage to pay for lol!

Little Flea – Thank you dead pleased!

Jen – ye for sure, im only going to do these weekend shows once a month, i think thats enough! You should consider stabling if you can get a lift back i do find it a lot easier and less stressful for me.

Eventer96 – def was pleased, was bouncing off the walls on sat night

Mandymoo – Thanks very much, been reading your reports about Bugsy, hope you guys can get your confidence issues sorted out!

I would stable and stay the weekend but it gets mega expensive jumping all weekend if you're not in the prize money! I used to do it a lot with Monty, but if you're not careful you end up with a bill of about £150 before you even think about diesel, shavings and haylage - just can't afford to do that any more unfortunately - goddamn mortgage...
