What is it like? Emma won a bag last week and opened it today and it actually seemed quite nice! Is it good stuff? How expensive is it? She also won some fish4dogs stuff which i havent tried her on yet. Only freesample packets but still...:)

The thing that struck me is the royal canin is for junior giant breeds which is unusual.

Dax came to us on RC and something else, so I carried on with the RC until she started to react to it a few months down the line and eventually had to go totally grain-free. It's not the worst thing in the world but there are fillers (most of the varieties contain wheat, for example) and as CC said it's expensive compared to similar quality feed.

F4D is far superior by comparison, no grains at all and a huge percentage of real fish. I bang on about it a bit on here 'cos it's awesome. :)

I use raw, and RC (GSD), but will look into F4D. RC certainly stopped my dogs's pancreatitis and colitis, and they eat it, which is a bonus (fussy!).

Isabel was fed on canin as a youngster, but because she gains weight really quickly was changed to raw.

At a show last year, the guy on the fish for dogs stall, spent 10 mins trying to get Isabel to eat his food....she wouldnt even lick it. :D

I actually think RC is a pretty rubbish food. Full of fillers.
I also know that a lot of large breeds have growth rate problems on it.

Interesting Katie. I had wondered about growth rate tbh. Emmas growth rate on raw has been slow and steady but she is quite immature (not small) yet totally in proportion. She isnt thin she just isnt as mature as other dogs the same age or younger, but it is all over immaturity so not really worried. Her head is still puppylike, she still has the soft puppy fur and no real jowels yet. Now in my mind that is not a bad thing with a Mastiff. She looks a fit healthy dog and so many mastiffs are pushed to be overweight in my opinion.

Since switching to raw Tojo has had no sore feet problems either.

I think I will just finish the bag and not replace it. It will only do a few meals anyway. I dont want to mess up the growth rate.
