ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW

I really hope the weather's ok. It's lovely today.......

Piper HATES inhand showing with a passion (sulks round the whole time with his ears flat back). Roo would LOVE to go but he's far too much of a big gangly weedy at the moment. Maybe next year. It's the Highland 2yr old Fergus going: he'll be in the stable so come and say hi!

Aw what a shame! He looks such a little dude in the pics! Aw I will take a wander round and keep my eye out for him! Hope you're class goes well :)

We are taking a mare on Friday for the Welsh classes. These days we just go for a nice day out and pray the weather is good. Been to too many miserable wet days over the years. Will look at the forecast for friday and decide if its worth the effort!

It such a shame how much of a difference the weather makes....it definitely makes or brakes the day as far as I'm concerned ! Fingers crossed the forecast is wrong and it sunny all day. I love the welsh classes! Good luck :)

When I lived 'up there', it was cheaper to enter a horse in a class and we'd get 2 entry tickets. Cheaper than going without the horse! I think we could use those tickets for other days as well. However, this was pre 1984! :) :p

Oh I do miss the Royal Highland! :(

What a good idea! That is true genius....wish I had thought of that but things may be stricter theses days!

Still debating whether or not to go, so expensive and I'm still drying out from Balcarres. Not sure I can face another show in the mud and piddling rain...

I seen some pics from balcarres......it looked awful. If I had gone I wouldn't want to see mud for another year

I am going Thursday - I am helping a friend showing youngstock in the sportshorse classes. Unbelievably, it will be my first visit to RHS:)

I hope you have a good first experience of the rhs ! It is a good day out especially if you're involved in the competing side!

aww boo want to go get payed the week after and at £25 a ticket it just not seam worth it may have to get a loan lol never missed a show since i was born lol love all days its just hard to decide what i want to see

Im heading up the thursday evening to stay for the rest of the weekend and 'groom' for the event. However i use the term loosely as its just a big social event for me!

I agree about balcarres, my jacket is still damp. It was such a shame it didnt get better weather as it would have made the event much better, i still enjoyed my day though!

Officially tomorrow guys :P Although I'm hoping to pop up tonight for a wee catch up with some of my friends who are camping, if they open the Herdsman for a bit!

Can't wait, even if the weather is horrendous it's going to be a great weekend!

*bounce bounce bounce, squeak* (actually, I feel rather like Roo :o)

Off to get a pony ready and take him in shortly. Please cross all fingers and toes for ok weather. Forecast gets better everytime I look (from appalling to just plain bad) so maybe be ok.

Just the highland 2yr old gelding inhand. I'm not leading though, thank god. Then it's much mooching for free stuff and beer tents......

Thanks :D He did really well, esp considering he was the only 2yr old in the class: the rest were all 3yr olds. Next year he'll be the older one of the class :)

Weather was miserable. Parking is going to be a nightmare tommorow :( Thank god for 4x4!

Anyone go today? How is the ground holding up? thinking of going tomorrow but if it's a bog may give it a miss. Will be really disappointed if don't get this year though.

Townfield saddlery have posted a waterlogged pic of their stand on fb - looks like horrendous conditions :-(
Hope it doesn't put off too many competitors or spectators as such a lovely show!

We went today. There were lots of flooded areas (unexpected large puddles with floating woodchips on top !!) and the horse walk from the horsebox park to the main ring is just mud, mud and more mud!! To anyone showing an animal with white socks, save your grief and dont bother. Felt sorry for the campers in tents, everything must be muddy and wet.
Consolation, the rain stopped and the sun came out for our mares class and was pleasant, until the rain started again!! If the unpleasant weather continues it can only get worse!!

I went today :) it actually wasn't as bad as I thought ! It was warm but dull and only one downpour. Carpark was a bit boggy at the end but nothing bad. Had a great day out !

Just read on RHS website that they are using the airport and RBS for parking and busing people in. May give it a shot tomorrow.

Oh I do miss the Royal Highland! :(

This is what I found when I took my Welsh Cob a few years ago - was much cheaper to enter him in 2 classes and got me and my parents in! I like the Highland but couldnt be bothered travelling down to watch this year (have nothing to show at this exact moment). The weekend is always so darn busy too. Glad I didnt go as looking at pics on FB, it looks very very wet!

Weather has been a joke. Fri was ok mostly, except literally half an hour where is was TORRENTIAL (flash flooding torrential!) and exactly over the parade. If they'd got rid of those stupid kids running around the main ring doing something or other, the parade wouldn't have been an hour late and no-one would have got wet. I've never seen such soaked people: friends where having ro wring their clothes out after :(

Parking is a nightmare and I'm SOOOO pleased we have a good 4x4. Friend and I did our Good Deed of the day and helped a elderly man get his car out.

Weather was fairly good today but it's still very wet underfoot. They're trying really hard to soak it up/pump it away but it's a loosing battle. Bring wellies and a waterproof, and get public transport (seriously!) and it's fine.

it's such a shame, and sods law: it's now to be nice for the next week :(

thanks kalibear. we have a discovery so will hopefully be ok - though may have to park elsewhere anyway. it is to be dry tonight so hopefully dry out some more. it is such a shame though. here's hoping for better weather at hopetoun & blair.
