My saddler suggested these to me as I have problems keeping my left foot in my stirrup. She checked horse and saddle and thinks, as I suggested, it is because my left foot is misshapen and so out of balance. Not the cheapest of stirrups, so the question is: "Are they worth the expense"? I'd love to hear from anyone using them before I take the plunge. And which model too, for general hacking and schooling.

I use them, not because I have anything wrong but I just like them and must admit hardly ever loose a stirrup and I jump in them twice a week sometimes.

I would say don't get the offset type as there not great to store if you leave on your saddle.

Do you have the bendy ones or the non bendy ones? I have some JW air irons and they are too bendy for me but I like the grippyness :)

I already have a pair of MDC Ultimate stirrups and wonder if they would do as well if I could put cheese grater treads in them. My saddler did say that the lighter weight of the RR stirrups did help keep the foot in place. And where would I get the treads to fit them anyway?

RR are just a glorified composite cheese grater.
Shires made a pair for about £30.

I Love my JIN though!! And even better I have spurs to match, both with my name laser engraved!! :O

Got them from 'SIM Equine' on Facebook, Sure they are on offer currently aswel

I recently got a pair of basic composite stirrups after riding a horse whose saddle happened to have a pair on and found it much easier to keep my foot in the stirrup. They were less than 20 quid so maybe worth a try before investing in something pricier? A couple of others at the yard have also got them for same reason. Haven't jumped much in them so don't know what they're like for that.

I bought the MDC stirrups about 2 months ago based on a friends recommendation.I found them much better than normal stirrups.

The main difference is that they face forwards. This makes getting on, finding a lost stirrup a lot easier. What I didn't expect, is that they also made a big difference to my balance in faster gaits. I think its because they are straight across my foot now, rather than at an angle.

I wrote a review you can read it here: http://www.honesthorsetack.com/mdc-stirrups-review-are-they-really-that-useful/

I've got the flexi RR stirrups and I love them. Very stable and they help my dodgy hip/knee no end. Would like a pair on every saddle I own but sadly not possible at £100 a pair!

If you want something cheaper then these are great - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Composite-REFLEX-Wide-track-Stirrups/dp/B002HPNBMU
Wide footbed though they don't flex as much as some flexi irons - the tread is on a spring rather than the arms of the stirrup flexing iykwim.
