Royal Windsor - a rant and a pic

Yesterday I had a lovely day at Royal Windsor, but I was rather upset by the carriage accident on the Marathon course. The accident itself was terribly upsetting but what got to me was the number of people who were getting in the way of the grooms /officials etc because they wanted a good view. I sort of understand the want/need to watch to make sure the horses were ok, but not to the detriment of the rescue itself. Despite the officials best efforts spectators were crowding round right by the accident taking photos and filming the rescue efforts, not to mention screaming and shouting. This can't possibly have helped the -already fraught- situation, and why would you want a photo of a distressed horse as your memory of the show? I should mention, all horses walked away fine.

Sorry - just wanted a little rant, I know we're meant to be a nation of rubberneckers, but honestly.

As an aside, I know there's lots of pics on here from Royal Windsor already, but I thought this was a rather lovely one - the Queen just looks so pleased:

I travel all over the UK by motorway on a daily basis and the number of traffic jams I have been stuck in, only to find the accident / incident is on the other carriageway, is beyond count.

There are some very selfish, sick and ghoulish people out there.

Didn't know about the accident....how awful. Some people just love to have a good look without being any help, really they need to just bugger off and let the people involved do their jobs.
I was there yesterday too but was holed up watching the M&M showing classes all day.....i didn't realise the queen was there how did I miss that!!

OMG.... really sorry, not about ur rant at all... but that's Dani (who I work for) and Flossy (who I exercise)!!! :) xx

Wow! Congratulations to them!! I hope they don't mind me putting their photo up, I just thought they looked so lovely, and the queen looked so happy to be presenting them with their prize. Give Flossy an extra carrot for me x

Didn't realise there had been an accident, hope those involved were ultimately okay. What thoughtless selfish idiots to get in the way of the rescue team and potentially upset everyone involved a lot more by shouting.

Oh dear, what happened?

I was pretty upset by an accident in the water complex one year. A lead horse went down on a decent and the pair behind (not to mention the vehicle and ppl) went into the back of it. Horse did get up (actually I think they went on to win) but it rather put me off that aspect of driving.

I my mind a horse that has gone down (bleeding all over knees and clearly not coping well with the extreme exercise, looked a lot more tired than the rest of the team) should be withdrawn/eliminated.

Oh dear, what happened?

This was on the driving course - the carriage seemed to catch on one of the gates and tipped out the driver/groom/navigator. The horses then bolted with the carriage swaying behind them. As they rounded a corner the carriage overturned, caught on the riverbank and pulled all four horses into the river. (Apologies if that's not quite the correct description of events -- I deliberately(!) didn't have a very good viewpoint). I should point out that help was immediately on the scene (accompanying grooms, officials, vet etc) and all horses walked away looking none the worse for the escapade. This was probably one of those accidents that looked a lot worse, and a lot more dramatic than it probably was - but again, not helped by those wanting a gruesome reminder of the day

We came back from Windsor on the Saturday and got stuck in traffic on the M25 due to an accident on the other carriageway. Lots of people weaving across lanes (obviously trying to get a good look) and I had to slow the lorry down to 30mph to avoid hitting people who were rubber-necking.
