A friend has decided to use Royaldik on her advanced event mare this year and out of sheer curiosity, I was wondering if anyone has used him before and if you have any photos of his offspring? Also wondering if anyone knows the stallion and what sort of temperament he has and what the offspring are like?

Thanks

He's a very impressive chap indeed, and we have also been considering him for our event mare. His breeding as an eventing sire is impeccable - his dam Herka XX is the full sister to Heraldik XX, who had 2 offspring at the Beijing Olympics. Heraldik XX has an impressive record as a sire of eventers; on Royaldik's sire's side he has AA blood through Inshallah. He is full brother to the outstanding sire Rohdiamant.

His own record is pretty impressive too - winner of his 30 and 70 day tests, and many other achievements already stacked up. He is marketed over here by Elite Stallions - take a look at his page on their website :

(And yes, it is an unfortunate name in English, but not in German, of course!)

Reminds me of that scene in Life of Brian where Pontius Pilate is talking through the list of his best friends .......

I went to see him at Birkhof stud this spring. He's a lovely horse with a phenomenal attitude, just a sweetheart. My only criticism from my perspective with using him to breed eventers was a slight lack of depth in the chest. I like them to have plenty of heart and lung room. I forgave him that though because of all his other redeeming features and used him on one of my young mares who is now in foal for next year. I will be very interested to see the resulting offspring...

Really interesting to hear more about him, Julia - would the mare that you have used him on compensate for the slight lack of depth in the chest, do you think? Look forward to seeing the foal pics when baby arrives!!

I'm not sure whether it will adequately compensate as she's not overly big bodied, but I'm hopeful. He's not as tubular as a lot of warmbloods I've seen, but is just lacking a little depth for me personally. She's quite a small mare but beautifully put together and was the UK Champion Event Foal in 2006 so is a smart mover as well. The 'plan'(!) is that I'll get a very quality animal with superior movement and a good jump. Whether I will or not will be seen next year!
