Hi
I thought I would post my update on the RS-Tor I purchased in November last year, it has taken me this long to decide what I think about it.
I am an experienced rider but have lost my confidence since not being seen by a car driver until me and my horse were on his bonnet!
At first I didnt like the RS-Tor as I am used to opeing my reins out with youngsters and in spooky situations, I found this was more difficult and a bit of a faff. What I do like though is that when I am nervous I can stop myself from gripping my horses mouth in fear, keep my reins more relaxed and grip my RS-Tor in fear instead which has proved useful for not escalating the situation. It has also proved useful when a dear little pheasant shot out of the trees startling my horse and sending her forward, I was stopped from pulling on her mouth as I was lent backwards with the sudden movement and it stopped me from going too far back and putting more pressure on her back- which can end up with her bucking. I used to be a very balance rider but fear overides that so all in all I think the RS-Tor may not be for everyone but does have its uses. Hope this helps for those of you that wanted an update- just sorry it took so long!

Thanks for that, I'm a bit wibbly these days (my age!) and I'm contemplating buying one so it's good to see a review. I know it is expensive for what it is but you can't put a price on safety and that feeling of security......

Interesting - I saw one in use at a jumping lesson on Sunday - the girl was full of praise for it. Might get one too I think.

I bought one too after losing my confidance and I never rode without it for the 1st couple of months back in the saddle. Now I have changed to a dressage saddle and haven't changed it over from my gp.
It did what I wanted it to do, which was make me feel more confidant.
I never had an experience where it came into play so don't really know whether they work, as such.
But did the job I wanted it to do so worth every penny in my book.
I used to call it my "o ****** strap".
Worked for me but now never use it :)

I'm a fan of mine too; my horse had a bad habit of spook, drop shoulder, spin 180 degrees and buck as he ran in the opposite direction, all in the space of a second. The last thing you need in this kind of situation is to be leaning down on to the neck holding a neck strap (if you can grab it in time!) The R S-tor you hold all the time so you can get your shoulders back and pull yourself deep in to the saddle.

I don't use mine any more but will hang on to it for when I break my youngster in a couple of years.

Errm, what is an RS-Tor?!

It's a little gizmo that attaches to the stirrup bar and D-ring on your saddle and you hold it permanently along with a rein. It's a reassurance (hugely expensive for what it is but then isn't everything in the equine world?!!) - because you're constantly holding it you don't have that split second of having to remember a neck-strap or balance strap...

It also stops you yanking on your horse's mouth...
