RS-tor?

Hi
There are a couple of posts about the RS-tor.
I have one and find it useful if I am feeling nervous, I can hold on to it rather than my horses mouth. I havent been in a situation where it has really been put to the test but other people on here have had positive experiences.

Whilst I appreciate these may be useful for novices and/or those needing confidence, my feeling is that this would be better served by the good old-fashioned "grab-strap" which attaches across the saddle ...... also maybe a rider would tend to get dependant on it which wouldn't be helpful???

Whereas with the "grab strap" the rider could relax knowing its there, and only use if/when needed????

I find it really useful. A grab strap has to be grabbed & if things happen v quickly may be too late. Not sure if it matters if you become dependent on it. You hold it like a whip so it doesn't affect riding at all. Also useful on youngsters which may shoot forwards - you keep your balance on the rs-tor, not their mouth.

I've got one, its saved me from eating dirt a few times when my horse has fallen to his knee's, a neck strap and a balance strap definatly wouldn't have kept me in the saddle but the rs-tor pulled me back in.
highly recommmend it.

I "test-rode" mine yesterday, funnily enough. Spent most of the ride thinking it was too loose and wouldn't work and then a monster pheasant caused my boy to shoot forward, the RS-tor came into play and jammed me into the saddle. I doubt the spook would have caused me to pitch off, if I'm honest BUT I sure felt a lot more secure with the RS-tor. Never shall I doubt it again.... :D

As others have said, I like the fact that you are holding it all the time so you don't have to react in a split second to reach for something so it is a constant reassurance. And ditto about it stopping me jabbing my boy in the mouth too.

I plan on getting one when I back my youngster, some of the things he does in field aren't helping my confidence, he's bucks are huge, he turns on a six pence, and does a lovely stop from a canter and buck at the same time! Never used one before but this young one seems so quick think it's going to be a must z

I have got one and used it constantly when I came back from a bad fall, increased my confidence levels no end. It never came into play as didn't have any near misses so took it off then proceeded to fall off twice in 2 weeks so will be putting it back on :)
Not sure if it would have helped but it can't have made it worse so will be riding with mine again :)

I was really glad to see this post as I am thinking about getting one when I am eventually allowed back in the saddle later this year. Do they help with spins at all?

I love mine. It has given me loads of confidence since I had a really nasty fall last year. It is attached to my saddle all the time. I use it when working in at competitions, whenever my horse is feeling cheeky and when riding in fields or any circumstance when he might get excited and do one of his explosive bucks and leaps. It has revolutionised my riding as I now have much more confidence to do things now. Before I got it I had a grab strap and breastplate but you don't have time to grab them when needed and can't ride with your hands in the normal position if you are holding them. I am so pleased with mine and would highly recommend them to anyone, they definitely aren't just for novices.

i think they work unless you let go of them when you fall off like i did - i remembered i was supposed to be holding it as i saw it on my way past !
