theres a strange story this weekend in the mail about an rspca raid and the couples daughter being taken ! i cant understand it . can anyone throw any light onto how this is allowed to happen ... by all accounts from neighbours ect she was well looked after to the point of being spoilt. very scary if all accounts are true !

Yes I read that and also found it confusing. The gist of what I got was that the couple were accused of cruelty and neglect to their dogs and so the question was ' well if they are cruel to their animals how can they take good care of children'????

I've probably got the wrong end of the stick but I didn't find it a well written article tbh.

apparantly the rspca raided as they thought there was illegal dog breeding going on .... i thought that was the council department ..... however later the charges were dropped but they had handed the daughter over to police custody and the couples requests to have their daughter back was refused. this was 2 years ago and they still havnt got her back !!!!!!!! there is an MP who has been looking at the case ... although they wont talk to him for legal reasons !!!!! and he says its the most worrying case hes ever heard !!!!!!!!!!!!

if you look at my post in the dog section you will see that the local council is likely to do sweet f a

There is an annoying child on my yard. Do you think if I phoned the RSPCA they would come and take him away?

Where have you got this from? Has it been reported in the press?

The RSPCA will alert social services and other authorities if the living conditions of a child in a house they visit are sub-standard (and the conditions some people live in are disgusting) or they believe the child is at risk. They cannot take a child themselves, social services would do that, and indeed, they cannot remove an animal without the owner's permission or the proper authorities ie police.

I am not a fan of the RSPCA at all but people are quick enough enough to condemn social workers etc when a child is injured or dies because of failure to take action. If there was a good reason for the child to be removed, why is it a bad thing that she was? Without knowing the full story it is difficult to judge - there would have been a good reason for social services to remove a child and surely either they or the police would have had to be involved in removing a child from their parents.

18 POLICEMEN !! and the charges dropped !!!! the police had been in the house the previous month for an unrelated reason and testified that the house was tidy and well kept and neighbours said the child was well looked after. tbh no one is going to let the rspca take their animals ....so when they do raid they make sure they have police in attendence otherwise its pointless.! if the charges about the animals came to nothing WHY cant they have their daughter back......unless i am missing something or there is more to it ......which according to the paper theres not.....and im sure they would love to report it if there was !....... i find this scary and very upsetting. i think most children are better off with their parents unless there is a very valid reason why not and i just cant see it in this very very strange story !!!!!!

Oh well...................they will be coming to take my baby away soon then as I havent had time to muck out my guinea pigs this week, oh and the flats are messy due to our neighbours blocking the garbage shute and another cat pissing in the hall. Not to mention there is dog crap outside and probably syringes!

I would love to hear the justification by that deluded social services that they are helping that child by traumatising her!! If so, I better start scaring the [****] out of my child at a regular basis as it must be good for them!

It also worries my how you can have these so called 'experts' opinions who they all HAVE to listen to. I mean, just because the kid said she choked on a lolly, he thinks she was forced to do things to her father!?!?! WTF!!
Thats like me thinking any reference anyone makes to eating a banana is that they want to well.........you know!

It's disgusting!!!

the daily mail reported on this story during the week then because of the interest did a 2 page report at the weekend. the rspca raided the family premises 2 years ago because of allegations of neglect and dog breeding. the couple were arrested and taken in for questioning and the daughter was given over to police custody as there was no one left at home to look after her. the charges were later dropped but the police had given the 5 year old daughter to social services to look after until the parents were back and they refused to return her . in the last 2 years the parents have been to court many times to try to get her back and the last time a week or so ago the court ordered her up for adoption. this is why the story was reported on this week. there is an MP who is appalled by the case and that leads me to believe that this is all very strange and unneccesary. i dont think its nice for amusement and jokes there is a little girl that is probably suffering and a mum and dad who dont really seem to have done anything wrong and i posted hoping that some one knew more about the case and could throw some light on it.

i suppose i thought that loads of peeps would have read it and i was amazed nothing had been posted about it ! maybe i shouldnt admit to being a daily mail reader !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read about this on Saturday as we stopped at McDs for lunch and I flicked through the paper that was on our table. I was gobsmacked - there HAS to be more to it than what has been reported. If not then bloody hell, it is very very scary.

Haven't read the story, but am sure that Social Services would be unable to comment, also from what has been posted on here, a court has declined to return the child, not social services. I would think it is safe to assume that there is considerably more to this story than has been reported here.

i really really hope so !!!!!! but not according to the MP . maybe now its hit the spotlight things will either come out and make it all clearer or the MP will get some support and the case will be looked at closely.

From what I can gather......
RSPCA raided house with police.
Parents arrested daughter taken into the care of social services while parents in police custody.
Social services send round a 'team' to check house and find it in a filthy state-they consider it no fit place to raise a child and start their line of enquiry and proceedings.
It later transpires that the house is in a mess as during rspca/police raid several of the animal where let loose in the home and result is house not fit for habitation.
Police have come forward and said it was a mess due to the raid BUT social services have already set the ball rolling and will not stop.

Sorry for rant but the Mail always gets my goat

I'm not sure how other media have reported this but anyone who believes verbatim something they read in the paper (which I know most of you don't which is why you are discussing it) especially one like the Daily Mail is unfortunately gullible. (I used to read it until I realised I was giving my money to such a insiduously fascist newspaper).

I'm not saying that Social Services, Courts or the Police get it right every time but its very easy to sit criticising when these situations are never straightforward and I would challenge any of you to make a decision about a childs life and see if you find it easy (I don't work in any of the above professions in case you are wondering)

The Mails sole aim is to scare the British public into thinking they live in a crumbling society which is about to fall into anarchy or conversely when it suits them about to become something out of 1984 where the thought Police know your every move. You should all be scared to step outside your front door for fear of being killed or have your children taken away from you!!

Rant over!

There is a proven link between animal abuse and child abuse and the RSPCA work closely with the police/ social services if they feel that children may be at danger in a home.

having read the article and run it through my Daily Mail Sensationalism and Exaggerationometer... i am still confused, but the parents sound thick as **** to have been so argumentative/confrontational with Social Services, the police etc.
a lot more to this than meets the eye... and i believe about 1/100th of what i read in the DM...
