Signed. They soooo need investigating and the results published to make the more naive public aware of what they really do with the money and their lack of response.

Very strange. I have no problem with the RSPCA humanely destoying animals as there are way more unwanted animals than there are homes available so I'd be interested in the full story. I'm not defending the RSPCA by any standard ( I have experienced how useless they can be).....by I do accept reality when it happens. People getting upset by the use of a captive bolt over lethal injection I can't understand at all. That's human perception. Both cause death. One looks more peacefull to us but the animal knows no different. Unfortunately not all unwanted animals can be cared for.
 
I have no issue with the captive bolt, but do not understand why RSPCA did not contact a GSD Rescue. They know it exists but they did not contact them themselves. It appears that they did not pass on contact details to the relatives either. It may well be that some of them were not rehomeable - but they should have been assessed by an expert. Unfortunately the RSPCA does not always bring in an expert eg. bringing a small animal vet to look at a horse.
I have had GSDs for over 25 years and my last 2 are rescues. Bath Dogs Home were competent and knowledgable.
 
This is a wider issue than just German Shepherds

The fact that this only came to lighbecause the RSPCA officer bragged about I think says it all...........I wouldn't relish seeing 10 dogs shot in the head and not always dying instantly, I've also never had to have a dog pts with injection that had to have it's leg shaved before being injected, it's the lies that are quite disturbing........We know that perhaps some of the dogs may have had to be put down but they all deserved a chance.....the RSPCA need to know that they are accountable for their actions.

The Rescue saved BRUNO who had to be pts 2weeks after getting him out of his neglectful where he was outside in all weathers with NO shelter chained up most of the time and he was suffering with Lymphoma......personally as an animal lover I find this appaling that the officer said he was ok!!
 
I'm fed up to the back teeth of defending the rspca on here, at the end of the day they are considered the same as the police, no one likes them and think they do the job all wrong, but hey without them the world would be alot worse off.

no one knows the inside story here, I believe its all hearsay, have the rspca officially commented?????? If no facts are known, (I stress facts NOT heresay) then people should not jump to conclusions........
 
Is that aimed at me? You don't have to defend the organisation from me, I don't think I have said anything particularly strong against the RSPCA in any of these posts.
In fact they do not operate in the country where I live.
My interest is in the prevention of any needless suffering or death of German Shepherds.
All I am welcoming is the dissemination of information.

You don't need to tell me about facts and hearsay, I'm a journalist

Just signed. I would be thrilled if the RSPCA could have their powers taken away from them. The officers are not trained properly, (dealing with horses) and they have failed on numerous occaisions to visit when told of animals in distress.

I havent read the links yet but just wanted to say that when the vet put my dog to sleep a few years ago he shaved his leg before injecting him.
 
Believe me it is not heresay, in their first statement which they haave retracted they said that they do not use bolt guns to euthanase.......s for Bruno, Lulu, pup and fluffy all the accounts are well documented and has been an issue for the last 14 months, Brunos Dead, Lulu has disappeared and Puppy has a broken tail god alone knows whats going to happen to fluffy this is fact because Bruno and Puppy are in the rescues care, anyway the man has replaced them with 2shetlands that he keeps in a shed on an allotment for his grandkids.

We are not saying that they are all bad but like any large organisation they start to think that they are fire proof and all we want is a proper and thorough investigation of their policies and also where the donations that are made are going to,because it's not to the 175 branches, they have to raise there own money!

In 2008, HQ spent £25million on animal establishments. BUT IT SPENT ALMOST AS MUCH ON ADVERTISING AND GENERATING FURTHER FUNDS! £22.519MILLION TO BE PRECISE. It also claims to support local branches to the tune of £8.422million and yet every branch makes it clear that they receive no financial assistance from headquarters.

So who is telling the truth?
 
hmm i'm not sure where I stand on this.
There are already so many dogs looking for homes, and these dogs could have been very unhappy - and as said on one of the link 'unsocialized'.
I don't know, maybe it was wrong, or maybe it was for the best.

no doubt i'll now be shouted at!
 
QR I can think of a lot of unsocial humans perhaps we should be pointing a bolt gun at their heads too?
I don't think the best solution was found for these dogs at all. If reports are correct they were not even give a chance by the so called 'animal welfare' charity!
There may have been individuals who could have helped these dogs, like specialist German Shepherd rescue groups. The reports I read stated that they were not consulted on the issue of these dogs.
While I agree that we cannot save them all, I do concur that enough was not done for these animals before the decision was taken to destroy them was taken.
I think we are all aware of the numbers of dogs and other animals that are awaiting new homes following cases of cruelty, neglect, indiscriminate breeding and so on.
I think the point the OP is making here is perfectly valid.
I have nothing but contempt for this so called charity involved in the case of the dogs in question. Following personal dealings with them and other cases/situations I have been made aware of I will never knowingly give them a single penny of my money or any respect whatsoever.
I was cold called by the charity the other day. They wanted to tell me all bout the work that they do. I asked them if the call involved asking me to contribute they said yes partly. I politely said, no thanks. Told them that I have no time of day for the charity especially when it comes to horse welfare. I wouldn't be giving any money and I didn't want to fed publicity to paint a rosy picture of the charity either!
I will certainly sign the petition!
 
The problem is that the RSPCA have been given too much power ,without having to be accountable to anyone. Prosecutions bring in funds and that is what they are really about.
 
no it was aimed at all involved in a witch hunt against the rspca!!

With regard to the branches of the rspca, hard as it is to understand they are actually separate charities on their own to the main rspca, they do not employ the inspectorate, nor fund prosecutions or any expenses associated with them, they work under the banner of rspca but deal with the rehoming of animals in their centres, there are policies they have to adhere to in order to operate under the rspca name. I'm not fully up on the full ins and outs of it but they are separate.

Basically if you donate to the main rspca then some of the money will go to the homes they have funded 'National rspca centres' of which I believe there are about 4 or 5 across the country and most will go to prosecutions and paying for field staff, campaigns, vet bills, fuel for attending incidents (your talking millions there!) etc etc. Donating to the branches pays towards keeping the animals either handed over to the rspca branch or taken into the branch centres by field staff, vet bills associated with these animals, the relationship between the main rspca and the branches is very close, because neither can operate fully without the other!

This is why you may be saying that the main rspca accounts do not show the money going there because they I think have their own accounts.

The reason they are considered the same as the police is because they try and fool people into believing they have extraordinary powers, whereas in reality they have no more legal clout than any other citizen.
Would the world be a lot worse without them? That's a bit like asking would the world be a better place without Gordon Brown!

There are a vast number of welfare organisations who struggle financially, without aid from the RSPCA, and probably are doing a far better job without big budgets or getting involved in politics, which despite warnings from the Charity Commission, the RSPCA continue to do.

Regarding your contribution on how the charity operates in relation to its various divisions, may I suggest you go back and research this further because much of what you have stated is inaccurate.
