I live within 'spitting distance' of the RSPCA head quarters ..... a couple of years ago, I saw (if I recall the vehicle rightly! ... the registration I know I recall correctly!) a Black 4x4 coming out of the entrance, with the number place of R5 PCA ..... I have always wondered, whether this was a very 'sad' member of their Staff or worse still a member of the Senior Management, or merely a member of public who was very supportive of the Society .......

With recent events .... this 'one of' sighting makes me 'think' about what the RSPCA stands for and does!!!!!

The big wigs at the RSPCA are on at least £100,000 a year. What i want to know is...is it our donations that pay for this and their private registrations??

of course it is....they are solely donation funded.

i stopped mine years ago when i took of my rosey hued goggles...

I have long since held a personal belief that they are useless. I have no faith in them whatsoever. They are almost impossible to get hold of and having an 0845/0870 sort of number they rack up the pennies while you are on hold for days. Pah.

This doesnt surprise me at all, but boy it has made me rather cross

It has been widely known for a long time that the Executive Officers are all on fat-cat pay and only a fraction of the £ you donate in good faith goes to the care of animals at their sites. My, have they got some answering to do.

To me it seems very similar in a lot of organisations, I personally would prefer to give items or my (what I consider valuable) time to help. This way I know that either the items or my time are used and its not just money wasted in the wrong way.

It seems strange to me that on one of the other postings, one of the organisations involved in the incident this week didn't want rugs, hay or physical dontations but money, surely they should be grateful for all that they get given and having other animals to look after, it at least could be used for them if not the ones rescued?

Every time there is a disaster, charities pop up out of the woodwork looking for money and this isn't just the animal ones!

I help with a few charity events and yes, part of it is about money, but we are always grateful for everything we get, however small and I'm not even meaning money. It also seems that when people can give something physical rather than money, they quite often end up giving more?

Sorry for the rant, but I am fed up with seeing expensive stuff, that is more than adequate for their needs and could have bought 4x the amount of perfectly useable items (thats fine for the rest of the real world) including cars, used by "charities".

Maybe we could all ask for a breakdown on 'expenses' versus the money that actually goes to help animals when they have their stand at Badminton this year. I'm first in the line, have rescued several animals that they have walked away from. I wouldn't spit in their collection bucket

Have just clicked onto their website and there is no mention on the home page of these horses, just about giving to their campaign on chickens

Maybe it's time BBC Watchdog or Rogue traders had a look at them, instead of trapsing out the usual easy well worn out target of garages builders roofers plumbers, never seem them go for lawyers solicitors accountants, judges charities, wonder why that is then, bit too difficult for them is it, just imagine the smug presenter dressing up as the old welsh guy and chasing a laywer and judge down the street demanding to know why some old lady had to pay £3000.00 in legal fees and demading to know why the judge sentenced the rapist with community service doing the gardens at the womens refuge center, wonder why they never go for these things, is it like the police with pikeys, bit too difficult

I will NEVER support the RSPCA in there work.

1) They spent over £5 million pounds of donations in trying to ban fox hunting. Such a futile exercise when there are plenty of other specialist groups who were doing the same thing.

2) They are a politically motivated charity which IMO is completely and fundamentally wrong.

3) They are a charity who are looking for powers that only the police should have.

If they did what they were supposed to do and did it well then I would support them but they are the worst of everything.

Will never support them either.
They are political and anti hunting, which is not their role.
Plus, their Freedom Foods label was an absolute con, which almost anyone could buy. Allegedly.

people give them £82,000,000!!!!!

It probably isn't all donations, but return on investment as well. But they have managed to create an organisation that is getting a return of at least £82m per year.

Some years ago I set up a direct debit payment after an agent for the RSPCA called at my door. I think it was only £6 a month but I soon cancelled it after watching an episode of Watchdog that pointed out that the people canvassing were an outside agency and that in order for them to take there cut my donations for the first year would be for them and not the RSPCA. I seem to remember the RSPCA also running a fundraising campaign that was in the press as they raised so many million and had spent about the same amount actually raising the funds!! They just make me really angry

Having worked closely along side the RSPCA....I can confirm they are a complete and utter waste of space...they will only deal with high publicity cases...those that have more commonly been brought to head or investigated by others....they then jump in and claim victory...thus raking in the donations.

This all really saddens me because when I was little I adored the RSPCA - I watched Animal Hospital on tv religiously, had all the spin-off books and Rolf Harris's animal books for christmas and basically thought they were wonderful for rescuing poor little animals. Granted I was only about 7 but

Now I'm older I've seen them be useless time after time, getting their priorities wrong constantly to the detriment of animals. The whole 'Freedom Foods' thing is a disgrace - many battery raised chickens could be sold with this label on as the standards are so low.

Am appalled at their income as they seem to do no good with it.

It's funny...from a young age I was all ready to become an Inspector...not when I had my eyes opened to...exactly what they do and stand for

I went into nursing in stead.

I am amazed at the response to my post, as I thought I may need to run away and hide .... daring to insinuate that peoples' well intended donated monies may not be used for the benefit of the animals all the time
mad.gif
thank you all so much, as I have read your replies with much interest!

Although I have always been under the opinion that animals were only 'saved' when the 'Camera Crew' and 'Rolf' were
around .... I was spitting nails when I heard about three Christmas' ago, an appeal on the radio (BBC Southern Counties) that the RSPCA Patcham were appealing for tins of dog food and blankets to be donated as they were self funding

..... that must mean that all those people donating their (well earned) money to help these shelters (all run by volunteers) are not getting money from the RSPCA where these same said people are sending their money. I wholeheartedly apologise if I have misunderstood the situation ..... but if I am right I am so angry

One Charity I do support, by helping out physically, is the CinnamonTrust .... and I am presently 'fostering' two, very much loved cats, as their 'Mum' who is 89 has just had a stroke and is in hosptial, is a life long member of the Trust and donates to them, and in return knows that they are looked after for life ... it is my next love next to my lovely Horses .... but as I cannot take in any more horses ...... if I could I would
blush.gif

.... the RSPCA Head Quarters is the most ugliest, expensive Buildings you could ever imagine, which looks like a 'Grandstand' from a Race Course, with blue panels as part of its feature, and is in the middle of the countryside .... you have to see it to believe it !!! ... and cose the millions (well no not them ..... innocent Benefactors
