please could I have some good old HHO vibes as Ru as gone into horspital. She went in last night and will be operated on today about mid day assuming that there are no emergencies. I can see that I may not actually get a lot of work done today

((hugs))) Hope she's okay, keep positive and smiling

Try not to worry too much. I have assisted with lots of these surgeries and they are really pretty straightforward. Which Horsepital is she in?

She is in the RVC at Potters Bar

TBH it has all been a bit of a rush. The insurance gave the go head yesterday at about 11.30am, the RVC were informed and asked for her to be starved from 12.30pm onwards and go in last night, so a friend hauled her in an put her in a small turnout pen without any grub and then she was taken in last night. unfortuatly she ended up in a straw stable and had to have a muzzel on.... to say she was NOT amused does not start to sum up her displeasure and she was being operated on today..... a bit of a whorlwind really.....

So far the aim has been focused on just getting her there and the op, I have no idea of the procedure now and how long she will be in for.... it is a very bazaar feeling..... am now just waiting for a phonecall as they said they would phone after they had completed the procedure

Hi G,

Just picked this up. Fingers crossed for Ru.

Will call you this evening to see how she is (and if I can't get thru will try again tomorrow). It's about time we had a natter anyway.

this is when we started to get her checked out. Initially scans & palpitation indicated that she could have either a tumour or a heamatoma. Over the course of the last year with the course of regumate the diagnosis has pinpointed that she suffers from extream pain which gives rise to the inability to walk, constant posturing & squirting and dangerous behaviour. In addition to this she shows colic symptoms and goes off her feed giving rise to a drastic weight loss. This all lasts for 10 days and we get a breif respite before it starts all over again. Not only that but the symptoms seem to be getting worse as she gets older. The vets decided since it is so extream that a perminant solution was best for her quality of life.... she is only 6

Thankyou all for the vibes.

The RVC have just rung to say they have just finished the procedure and that it went like clockwork. She is still a bit dopy but they are very pleased and she has been a good girl for them.

Another update:

The RVC rung this morning and it was all positive news

Ru was understandably a little uncomfortable last night but ate all her hay and bucket feed last night. she has also eaten her hard fee this morning and is currently happily tucking into her hay. They said that she had not shown any signs of colic and that she was also pooing well.

My response to this was "so the reintroduction of food went well then"

They seem to be very pleased with her progress and they are going to take her for a walk in hand today.

I am going to see her tonight ( armed with a pear - her favorite) and talk about where we go from here and ask the biggest question of all.... when can she come home

Hi G,

Glad to hear that it's positive news so far. Sorry, but ran out of time to phone you last night, will try and do so if not tonight, over the weekend.

While Ru's off work (which hopefully won't be for long) you know that if you ever fancy a drive over here, you can always have a ride on one of my boys if you feel the need to make up a few of those missing saddle hours.
