Rub proofing a stable ideas

My horse likes to rub her mane on the stable door posts (she doesn't have a conventional stable door but has 4 posts she can stick her head through and four posts she can consequently rub on. She isn't obsessively rubbing but enough that she's taken a bit of her mane out.

I was thinking about putting Pipe lagging foam or something similar around the posts to stop her rubbing on the wood (my thoughts were it's less abrasive than the wood) but the posts are too wide for the piping i've seen.

Has anyone else got any ideas on how I can stop her rubbing on it?

I already use an itch gone lotion and as I mentioned before it isn't obsessive just enough for me to want to stop her (she is a breed which has a long mane).

Any thoughts would be a great help before I also start pulling my hair out

My friend finds having her PRE mane plaited helps with the rubbing as then he isn't so hot with it, which stops him itching.

I don't think that foam would help, you need to stop the need to itch rather than let her itch on something less!

Hi, yes I agree with trying to remove the need to itch. I wash her in an itch stop shampoo and put itch be gone lotion on her but she still likes to come in and have a nice rub.

It isn't like a sweet itch as its not obsessive and uncomfortable. its just like us sometimes having an itch and because her mane is important to showing her I wanted to reduce the damage when she does itch.

I agree that they get hot under it. I plait her tail but worry with her mane incase she rubs the side where its all plaited and rubs out more than if it weren't plaited?
