Rubber bit repair

Is it possible to repair/re cover a worn rubber bit? It seems very wasteful to junk it because the black rubber cover/coating has been chewed through. Or is it feasible to return to manufacturer for recycling?

If it's the type with a steel core (so still safe if it snapped) you can just cover it with bit wrap or stitched chamois leather or even vet wrap.

Obvs depends how damaged, I'm assuming you mean a bit chewed or rough.
