Coblets got a Tom Thumb bit for show jumping, and has 'eezee' rubber bit rings on because it's a loose ring bit. However everytime I ride in it, it makes the outside of his corners sore and pink, then a few days later big flakes of skin peel off it. I have a huge tub of vasilene that I put on his mouth before and after I ride in it and it makes no difference :/
The bit isn't too small for him, it makes me wander if he's allergic to the rubber bit rings however I don't want to ride without them on because of the loose ring mouthpiece.
Any ideas?
Cadbury Roses for all :)

The obvious way to find out is to remove the rubber rings. If the bit is big enough, it won't rub/pinch, even if it is loose-ring.

It does sound like an allergic reaction.

I saw this once years ago the reaction stopped as soon as we stopped using the rubber rings we assumed the horse was allergic.

I ride several horses in loose ring bits without any issues with pinching. TBH I think it is entirely possible but unlucky, i.e. you are almost certainly fine to try without rings the once to see if it improves things.

If it is just the corners though it is possible it is the bit itself acting on them. Hard to know without trial/error and being able to see.

Good luck.
