I've put mats in one stable this year. So far he's only been in for a few nights, but am pleased so far. My stables drain to the front, so this works. I've put in enough bed to soak up wee and so that he'll lie down (I tried just enough to soak up the wee, but he wouldn't lie down so I put a bit more in). I sweep the dry bed to the sides and pick up poo in the mornings, sweep the wet bed out and that's it. It's using less bed, and I won't have to dig our a whole winter's worth in deep litter in April. I also didn't like the deep litter by about Feb, it always seems to get a bit dusty...
