Rubber mats?

Have just had some new ones put down - with a pimple pattern. Unshod pony was skating around on them as he came in with wet feet! Soon became non slip when shavings were spread around, we came to the conclusion that the mats had some sort of dressing on them as after handling them our hands felt smooth.

We have pimples on one side, and stripes on the other - the stripes are supposed to be next to the floor, we have them the other way up as they are WAY too slippy otherwise

Yep we do this too. The first mats I bought are field guard M2 mats - designed to be used without bedding (failure!) and the lay with the strip upwards so when we bought the pimple mats we laid them the same way. Easier to sweep and the horses dont slip on them - glad its not just me!!

Stable next to ours has the mats the wrong way up. Should be small pimples up, stripes down.

Mine had an oily coating when they first arrived. After a couple of days of use (whilst covered in shavings to stop them slipping) they becames non-slip.

I used to have some kraiburg mats and they were ever so slippery when they were wet. Got some non-branded ones now which are a bit softer and they don't get slippery at all.

I've one on the old striped/ribbed Fieldguard ones with little legs and they've never been slippery in all the ten or so years I've had them. The other stables are all fairly plain green mats that were the first ones to come out (maybe fifteen years ago, maybe more) with jigsaw edges and they can get slippery if wet.

Thinking about it, I've had them all those years and they're all still like new. And some people say they're a waste of money .....

[/ QUOTE ] I have these in all of my stables and never had a problem with them being slippery either.
