~~ rubber matting - seal or no seal? ~~

I don’t seal mine but then i don’t keep lifting it to clean either so once the bedding has filled in any cracks it stays put. I have never needed to seal it.

I would seal them, mine have been down for five years and are still sealed. No smell, no lifting heavy mats in and out, much the better option IMO. If and when they start to lift I will get them sealed again.

Yes I agree with this! The mats in my 4 stables were sealed when the mats went down new. That was 7 years ago and the mats are still sealed and no smell whatsoever! (thank goodness!)

If you seal them, you don't need to lift them to clean under them as they stay dry and clean! I always had sealed until I moved for the 2nd time in as many months (and then moved again a few months later so was glad I didn't seal them and haven't sealed them now either). Sealing them was great as you could guarantee it stayed dry underneath, but they are a nightmare to remove if you leave your yard and can leave marks on the concrete where the glue was.

My husband is very clever and has cut them all in so there is next to no gap between each mat and they still stay fairly dry underneath, mainly due to adequate bedding. We don't and won't lift them that regularly as they are very heavy and, from experience, don't need it. Besides, in my aquamax stable, the bedding fills the gaps.

Having now tried both ways, I will say that sealing is unnecessary if the mats are cut in properly.

interesting, still in 2 minds ltho, moving wont be a prob as theyre my stables, when built lol what company did people use for their mats?
