Rubber matting

Mats like these can work if used with a really good, deep bed. But the stable also needs to be remarkabley well draining.

But if you want value for money, then you'll probably need to put your hands in your pocket and dig deep.

I've used Equimats in the past and they are brilliant. Hard wearing and durable (but expensive).

I know - they are pricey :o

But they may also do you a deal - phone up their local rep.

They sometimes have seconds they can offer you as well......

I have a mid priced mat in my stable. Thicker than these but not as expensive as Equimats. My recommendation would be to get a mat with pimples on the underside for drainage frather than grooves. Grooves are only really effective if you can line them up in the direction of the drainage in your stable. If your stable drains long ways and the drainage is horizontal its going to trap the wee.

i used to have these types of mats in my stable while i was at uni, but they were forever curling up at the edges & have stretched horrendously. They dont even look rectangular anymore! & this was with a mare that remained quite still in her stable, they would be much worse if you had a box walker & i dread to think what one of the yearlings could do to one overnight (have seen this type of mat shreaded by naughty pony teeth!)
I use mats very similar to these now:

which im sure if you have a better search on ebay you could find cheaper. Think i paid around £28 for each of mine, & was buyin in bulk similar to you (5-12x12 & 1-15x15).
