Rubber matting??

I moved to a new yard a couple of weeks back and they bring in every night (ond yard only bought in when it was really bad weather) I have put my 2 horses onto straw. Bad mistake they are both really wet and it seems to be costing a fortune even tho there on a couple of pounds a bale. Was just reading through a saving money thread and everyone has mentioned rubber matting (i'm always up for saving a few pennies) Can anyone suggest a brand that will last and what thickness it needs to be?? I only want to put a sprinkle of shavings on to soak up the wet. Also I have been looking and you can get them with bubbles or engraved lines in, which is best??

Rubber matting is great, but I've found with extra bedding on top, if your stables has a concret floor it's cold. Some like to just put light shavings on top. I have learnt shavings are expensive when you have 4 horse and they don't break down easy,so mine are back on straw over the rubber and that straw is a lot cheaper than rubber mating or shavings.

i put rubber mats in a stable and had a deep straw bed at the back while willow (still a foal and on mum) had cut her foot and was stabled to keep out of the mud and wet... and whisper (mother) gets filled legs from standing on the hard that i would leave at the front of the box, for hay and water.

they ended up manky!! whisper is normaly VERRY clean, but with the matting, the poo just sits on top and what a mess!

willow turned from buckskin tobiano to allover greeny brown...

as a result, im not a big fan!

I have rubber matting, but also have quite a big bed on top, of chopped rape straw. I tried using very little bedding and he was just filthy all the time, so I went back to a bigger bed. The rubber goes right up to the door, but I have the bedding further back, so he has somewhere comfortable to lie, but also has the cushioning of the rubber if he is standing looking out of the door. It works wel for me.
