I expect this subject has been covered before, but to save me trawling, please can you all tell me your experiences with EVA v Rubber.
My horse has developed a nasty dust allergy due to being on box rest for a year, now turned out 27/7 but will have to come in end of Sept.
Due to needing to keep his air as clean as poss, was going to get EVA mats as they are easier to take out to clean, but have read things that say heavy rubber is better.
Please tell me your stories before i pay £600+ for the wrong
mats.
Thanks in advance

I bought some cheaper eva mats off ebay, to try mats out, which are great for me, but have a few downsides, and if i was to buy again, i would definately go with the equimats which link together like a jigsaw, or go for the heavier rubber mats.you get what you pay for. so do ask lots of questions before you buy.
positives are: light weight, easy to move for cleaning and relocation, softer and spongy for the horse so can use less bedding.easy to trim to fit awkward sized stables.
downsides are: can be damaged easier by shoes and nails-also shaving forks. can lift up if bedding gets underneath it. i used easi bed with mine, but kept getting down the gaps and the mats raised, then moved because of this..
in the end i have just had to reduce the amount of bedding i put in to fit on one mat. this obviously saves time and money, but i do like the look of a nice full bed.
although my friend has the same mats and uses shaving with no probs. i will be changing to shavings, but had bought easibed in bulk.
my mats have been damaged by horse shoes. although these were only cheap mats, more expensive ones could be better quality.
overall, i do like the eva mats, but can lift and move, and do consider what type of bedding you will use on top.

Thanks for your replies, im now in a muddle as what to do, anymore experiences welcome....PLEASE
Thought the eva mats might damage easier...

All of my stables in England were fitted with EVA HorseComfort mats - absolutely fantastic mats!

They were light to move, easy to hose down, did not mark and were not damaged in any way over the many years I had them ... wish I had brought them over here when I immigrated

EVA doesn't appear to be available over here, hence I had to buy rubber matting for my stables here - greatly dislike them! Very heavy, unwieldy and to be honest quite tiresome not only to move but also to muck out.

EVA has my vote.

I have EVA horse comfort mats and they are fantastic! I have had them for about 6 - 7 years and have used Woody Pet bedding (same as Aquamax / Natures Best) and also dust extracted sawdust. I do have some rubber mats too but I hate them, I have 4 full stables on EVA and just 2 lonely rubber mats only purchased as I needed something there and then and my local saddler stocks them.
The EVA mats look like new except for in one stable there are shoe prints but this is only because the farrier shod a horse in there once and it left marks, it does not effect them in anyway.
The EVA have more 'give' than the rubber and also feel warmer to the touch.
I got loads of samples of mats before I chose which ones to buy but I am so pleased I went with the EVA.
Hope that helps.
