Sorry for making a second post... its too late to edit my other one and id forgot to ask at the time.

Im looking at buying some new reins as mine are getting a bit tatty

Question is though... do i get Rubber, or plaited. Ive always had rubber, but then though plaited would be a change and may look smarter

Ive found a site that does both of them for the same price but now i cant decide which ones to get!

which would you get???

Personally I would have Rubber reins, I cant get on with Platted reins they have a different feel and I end up with Blisters! However they do help if the reins tend to slip through your fingers a lot.

Hope that helps,

Absolutely hate plaited rains, much prefer rubber ones

I don't like plaited reins, but rubber are quite bulky. If I was going to get new reins I'd get thehalf rubber ones.

You might find laced reins more comfortable than plaited ones, they can cut your hands to pieces! Have to admit, I always try to use continental reins now, so much more comfortable! You could have continental slots sewn onto plain leather reins if you wanted.

I hate rubber reins with a passion, I feel that you dont get much feel of the mouth - I use plain leather ones - but have to remember to wear gloves if it is raining !!!

I can't cope with rubber reins far too bulky for my little hands and fingers! I really like the sure grip rubber type reins and plain leather if I was going somewhere posh!

I prefer the laced ones or the continental ones. I find the rubbers ones a little bulky but extreamly good for faster work when subtle goes out the window!

I got some nice laced ones of ebay the other day for around £21 (including postage) in extra full and black to match my tack, Stubben make ( wish rest of tack was stubben lol) They were used but in great nick and I've been dying to use them then we get bloody torrential rain

I know you've made up your mind now, but the ones you linked to are laced reins, not plaited. I love laced reins, much less bulky and give you a better feel for flat work, but for XC and hunting I prefer the grip of rubber, even though they're bulky.

My daughter uses the half rubber reins for her dressage, they are smart & less bulky in your hand, looks a little more elegant as well but you still have a good grip
