Hi,

Just wondering- who is the best company to buy Rubber arena topping from?

Also- the arena is slightly larger than 20 x 40 but not as big as 20 x 60 if that makes sense! How many tonnes do you reckon I would need to top up the existing surface- (I dont like to work my horses in a deep surface- it has to be flat and level!)...

Also maintenance of the school- is there anything else that you can use to level the surface apart from a proper grader/tractor or dragging a gate round?

And, where have you bought arena mirrors from? I am thinking of buying 1- or would I be better with 2?- or are they cheaper if you get it from a non-horsey sort of shop- (as long as its the safe type of glass stuff?)

I'm also thinking of getting a Solarium- I think I once saw a post on here for cheaper Solariums but i can't find it- I don't want to pay loads!, so do you have any ideas?- is it easy enough to rig up a meter to the Solarium so it doesn't put the electric bill thru the roof!?.....

Sorry I've got loads of questions!! and many thanks for your help!....

i swear by Springride rubber shred, had it on my last arena and this one. it floats on top and is totally brilliant. have a look at their website, there's a long testimonial by me.
there's good arena levellers around, although i haven't ever needed one for my silica + springride.
i'd go for at least 4 mirrors, one at ends of both long sides, and two at B or E sideways on, to check overall pic from the side. my mirrors at my last place were rubbish, useless optical quality at a distance, so i won't recommend them!
Kylix solaria are good, not all £££s, i think. i think some of the big internal-stable manufacturers do them too. i'd also have a look on ebay! it's on my shortlist, haven't decided which one to get yet though.

Wow- the arena surface you mention sounds fab!- I'll check out their website when I get a minute!- its great that you don't really need to maintain it too!

And yes- I understand what you mean about the mirrors- maybe I'll have to save up for more then! or maybe I could buy 2 with a view to buy some more!

I'll also check out Kylix again- I did get a quote off of them last year for a cheaper one but I think I'll keep shopping around!!.

Many thanks for your recommendations!

We have quite a lot of arena mirrors that i 'stumbled' upon. Basically i was VERY lucky - was browsing ebay one day and saw them ending in 30 min with no bids on, and they were local to my shock horror when i viewed the item! Some had been used, some hadnt and they were only 25minutes drive away. i havent used them all but am afriad i am not selling the rest.

Re solariums, i'll get back to you re how easy it is to set them up on a meter - the meters i have are currently sat in my car and the solarium lights in back back living room! I recall seeing some cheap ones - i have just managed to find the link (after quite a search of me trying to remember the name!)
http://www.sunswitch.net/equine.html they seem to have extended their range since i last looked!

Ah ok- thanks very much- I'll check out the website you mention!..

You were very lucky to get your mirrors!!

I got my rubber from alruba rubber - they supply charles britton with the long rubber shreds.

It cost me approx £1,000 to put rubber on the top of my 20x60m surface.

I rung them, number in back of horse and hound and bd mag, aksed them how many tonnes they recommend.
