Ok, so in a couple of months ponio will be coming in for the winter, and some advice is needed. When he's stabled, he rubs his tail (well, I assume he does, having never actually seen him do it); he does it whether he has a rug on or not, and the top of his dock ends up all bald

Someone suggested that aloe vera might help ... anyone got any ideas?

In winter mine are fine, but they do get mild SI so are kept out from May to October. Should they have to come in, I put a travel tail guard on - I like the cotton ones from equine premier. This stops bare tails.

You might want to give the tail a good wash and make sure plenty of spray is applied when they are out and consider a rug, though probably too late this year to do much about it but next year take precautions for SI. You could try some frontline on the tail as this is good if anything has taken up residence in the hair.

This year has been bad for midges - been warm and damp, just what they love.

Finally it could be worms or simply that they are hot and itchy.
