Rubbish day

This is a part horse part dog part life moan, hope it's OK in NL as I don't really go into Soapbox.

Yesterday was a totally rubbish day.

Last Thursday I found Freddy with one back leg caught up in his rug. It was totally swollen so we've been cold hosing etc. Yesterday the swellling went down but he is lame so I have the vet booked in for today. I am fearing the worse, I just know his tendons/ligaments will be shot and he doesn't do box rest (well at least not without killing all of us).

Meanwhile we sadly had to have Jakey (dog) put to sleep. At 14 old age had caught up with his millions of health problems and the decision was made. He did go in peace, it was the right decision, but as with all such situations it was horrible nonetheless. Poor wee man.

And to start off the day I stepped in s*&^, literally! The sewage pipe broke in the barn creating an allmighty mess. I have no idea how we'll go about cleaning it and if OH mentions the words 'building project' ever again after this one (fourth one in a row) I am going to have a fit!

Hope today is better although it was started with my groom calling in sick. She was quite unwell for a whole week two weeks ago and now has the same symptoms so I am quite worried for her. She sounded almost in tears on the phone and is waiting for the GP.
 
Aww you've had a tough few days! I hate it when life feels like its just playing all the rubbish cards. Big vibes for your boy today and I hope its not bad news.
 
Many thanks shadowboy! Freddy has damaged his deep flexor tendon. In the scheme of things it's not too bad, but box rest is not an option as he will both go mental and try to kill me, so we'll try to keep him calm in his field for three weeks and re-scan. That's horses for you I suppose!
 
Well at least it sounds like everything awful is getting out of the way at once:(

I hate it when that happens though. My mare doesn't do box rest either, (we lasted three days when she did her ddft and after she was rearing in the box on her damaged leg the vet said to turn her out.) but she did heal perfectly well in the field although it took longer and we had to restrict bute, hopefully yours will heal no problems.:)
 
Thanks touchstone. I think he has about equal chances of injuring himself in the field as in the box so he might as well enjoy himself in the field. I went through 9 months of box rest with a very lively horse and I am convinced his rearing and bucking in the stable affected the outcome (unfortunately he never recovered). Here's to hoping for a better outcome for Freddy!
 
I am so sorry to hear this, its horrid when just about everything goes wrong at the same time. They say thinWe cabgs come in thee s so I really hope that this is the end of a really crap time for you. In life iwe can sometimes cope with one thing at a time but when its all thrown at us it really takes it out of you, I do hope your horse gets better soon, RIP Jake, thinking of you, please take care and I hope that things start to pick up for you x
 
Well it sounds like you have had enough bad luck, this must mean you are in turn for some good. Fingers crossed for Freddhe and sorry to hear about your dog, they become such large parts of our life. Be kind to yourself have a nice big bar of choc and hopefully things will start looking up for you soon xxxx
 
Thanks ebonyallen and zirach. Sadly, years ago I got two puppies and a kitten in quick succession (all within 3 years of each other) so they are all very elderly now and reaching the end of their lives together which is quite horrible. I wish pets lived a lot longer, 15 years doesn't feel long enough.
