Rubbish farrier...

I don't give a toss how many years he trained, or how early he gets up or how punctual, witty or charming he is; THIS is crappy shoeing and I'm going to winge about it.

Before; (taken the day he was shod!)

Fores

Hinds

After (My farrier did what he could, but you can see feet are still not even)

Fores again

hinds trimmed (still uneven, farrier couldn't take any more off without possibly hurting A)

hinds shod

Not at all, most of the farriers I know are okay, but could be better if they ried harder. They are just so relaxed because they know they will always have clients.
My farrier is bl00dy fantastic, he takes his time and actually looks at what he is doing and how it will effect the whole horse. My boy can be quite stiff through his hinds, and my farrier even has a little rest for his hoof to sit in, so he has something stable to lean on!

Oh my god,those fronts are awful

Well, I had it fixed the next day by my own farrier, but yes, it's very lucky he stayed sound. You know what's even worse? That 90% of the people on my yard wouldn't know a good job of farrier from the one above!

New farrier looks to be doing a great job but how poor were his feet before

,if your new farrier is changing angle of hoof etc,his joints and bones will feel it as his feet change shape and he may be sore,my boy was,1 farrier shod badly,other came in and made his hoof right but it lamed him every time after 2wks of shoeing for a while,took 4 shoeings

,however good news is,my lad now has fab feet and an awesome farrier,never been lame since

Oh, it's ok. That was 2 farrier jobs ago and he's still sound.
These are his feet about 45 days ago (due to be shod again now);

Hinds

Fronts (pigeon-toed!)

Only takes one bad shoeing to ruin horses feet, but bl00dy ages to sort them out!

The after shots looks sooo much better than the befores (maybe that's the point and I've missed it entirely

)

Top shots they're flared, uneven, long and underrun with contracted heels and broken back pastern axis, esp behind. Second shots are way better. Shorter, look better balanced and matching pastern axis, weight much further back with less under-run heels and they look like the heels have a chance to spread properly. Heels still look long, but better.

,oh my,do those hooves belong to him??No wonder you got rid of old farrier,backs are looking alot better,fronts look like after another 2 or 3 shoeings will be back on track

That's exactly my point. In ONE shoeing a rubbish farrier did the first pics (to explain a bit further; I'd give up the ride on A (not my horse) and owner (who doesn't ride) had let his feet go far too long between shoeings so they were very long. His usual farrier had broken his hand and couldn't shoe him but he recommended Rubbish Farrier. After seeing that, I thought f*ck it and got my own farrier to do it properly. He IS a very, very good farrier.
