Im sick of paying silly money for dusty old cr*p hay that my horses spend half a day looking at before realising this is all the hay mums putting out for me, £4 - £5 for small square bale. Bring back the days where i was paying £2.20 for real quality hay. Its been a long hard winter, next winter i think i'll be alot more prepared mind you i say that every year haha. Well thats my moan of the day.

If the horses arent eating it dont waste your money! Buy a hay replacer or bagged haylage instead, it will be far more cost effective than the current situation, which is equivalent to treading £5 notes into the mud!

The cost doesnt just stop there, if hay is dusty you will make your horse ill. It might not show up straight away but dust and mould is SO bad for their respiratory and digestive systems that i wouldnt even consider feeding it. If you carry on you will have a nice big vets bill soon too

Blimey, we've had great hay at £3 a bale and we've used more than ever this year due to the bad weather. I'm surprised munchkin if you're in Yorks that your hay's not been better, last summer was great for haymaking round where we are.

we went to a woman who was selling damp and mouldy hay for £2.75 a bale. we refused the mouldy stuff and she had the CHEEK to try and charge us £2.90 because we took 'mostly good stuff' ha. of course it was all stupidly dusty inside as well.

Well I have just (literally) given away for free some hay that was too rank for me to think about feeding to my horse. Debateable if it is usable for cows too.

My (ex) YO used to tell us how brilliant his round bales were - NOT. You unwrapped the first bit and BINGO - I always had a coughing fit so bad I had to leave the barn. After three such attempts, I switched to his haylage, which was hit and miss. I just could not understand how some people still fed that hay ? Their horses ate it cos they were so hungry I guess, but what on earth is it doing to them ? sm x

Its the same here in Kent £5 for small sq bales and £45 for the big round bales. We sent some back the other week, it was awful can't believe he had the cheek to drop it off

Same here we are paying 45 now for bales that were 35 and around 8ft x 4ft which have now not only "shrunk" to 6ft x 3ft and are more brown than green yuk!!

Got great hay here. Think I've been lucky. My hay supplier was running out but let me know in advance. My OH managed to find some... from next door, cheaper than before. They are round bales, not square. The hay is lovely and soft and green. Smells fab every time I open the barn to get some out. £20 delivered. :)

If anyone has any good, non dusty hay in the beds, herts, bucks area please PM me!!!! I don't mind if it's meadow or seed hay as long as it's a nice quality and not mouldy.

The good barn dried seed hay that we had is about to run out, and all the other hay we've been offered is awfully poor quality and dusty and expensive. We even had one batch full of rubbish (which we sent back).
I'm giving the poor quality stuff to my old retired horse soaked well, and normally he's a pig, but even he only eats a couple of sections over night. He does need to lose some weight, so I'm not so worried about the old boy, but I wont feed it to my young TB.

I'm about to start feeding the TB horsehage if we can't find any good hay. I'm not generally a fan of haylage as when we used to feed it, we found some of the cheaper brands weren't sealed well and were more dangerous for the horses to eat than dusty, but soaked hay. I know horsehage is expensive but I've not had a bad bale of that.
