Went to a show on Monday/Bank Holiday; a lovely little local Pony Club show, everyone had a super time in spite of the weather.
Had just loaded everyone up and ready to go ..... when I noticed a pile of litter left in the field. Can't quite remember who was in that particular spot, think a family with a trailer and couple of ponies & children, BUT they'd left a pile of litter where they'd been - consisting mainly of plastic beakers with straws: the straws particularly were plastic and very sharp on the end and the sort of thing to cause a very nasty injury if cattle or horses had been put into the field without the farmer or someone noticing and clearing up said rubbish.
WTF is the matter with people? I find it inexplicable that at a little event like this where everyone has put so much effort in - that people just can't be bothered to take their rubbish either to a bin or take it with them.
Would they have been happy to put their precious ponies out to graze in a field with sharp-ended plastic straws in and have to deal with the result if it got in their throats? (plus all the vets bills???).
Everyone else cleared up after themselves and didn't leave any litter, so why did this one rotten apple have to surface?
Grrrhhhhh.
PS - well done to the stewards: on duty in the damp and fog, and on their feet all day and kept in good humour throughout! Bless you. Its people like this that are prepared to be of service that keeps the horsey world turning!
