Wondering if anyone has any solutions. At this time of year my horse gets even rubs behind the saddle and rubs where my feet go and girth. Never have this issue in spring / summer and same tack. It happens around December and goes around march / April time. Saddle etc checked every 6 months.

Has anyone used any creams or sprays? I think it’s happening as his hair is corse this time of year.

I used to worry about this but several people, including a saddle fitter who I trust, said not to worry as it often happens at coat change time.

Are the rubs even on both sides? I would only worry if they're not even or the horse seems sensitive. Otherwise I think it's just the coarse old winter coat breaking off.

Some people suggest using coat shine spray or a silky saddle pad to reduce the friction a bit - see https://www.wills-saddlefitter.co.uk/blog/january-rub-marks/

Hi, yes even both sides. Girth marks even on both sides too.
My physio said he’s fine and it’s not a problem, but wondering if any creams or sprays work? I might try that coat spray. It’s definitely not as bad as the picture on that link.

Sheepskin everywhere! I switch to girth sleeves for all at this time of year - it’s more comfortable for them and a very simple thing for me to do. One of our old ponies also needed a sheepskin numnah at coat change time.
