At HOYS today saw Rudds - which are wellies you can ride in. As my horse is kept in a field this would be helpful as spend a lot of time cleaning my leather riding boots. Anyone have them and can give me a review? Or suggestions for other wellies designed to be ridden in safely?

Thinking they might make a nice Christmas present from my hubby :).

I have had riding wellies in the past and tbh I didn't find they performed either purpose that well. Not tall enough to be comfortable to ride in, and not grippy enough to be any use in mud.

Other people may have had different experiences tho ;)

I liked my Rudd’s, decent grip with a riding safe sole, high viz strip on back for walking home up road in the dark, and nice and warm. Comfy enough. BUT they split and leaked within one winters use (not even intensive) and I got no response from the company when I gave feedback. So I wouldn’t buy another pair at the price sadly.

I've got a pair of the Rudds that I purchased after getting frustrated at my Ariats for successive pairs only lasting a few years before splitting. They're ok as wellies go but I find them neither as warm or as comfortable as the Ariats & I find them impossible to ride in comfortably. (I also had some Woofwear ones that split after a few months... contacted them & got a full refund but will never buy another pair). I can see me ending up with another pair of Ariats if & when I wear these ones out as they're just not as nice to wear :( (I erm still haven't quite gotten around to throwing away my last pair of ariats with massive splits in them as keeping them "for emergencies")

For the first few years of riding, I used a pair of Decathlon wellies.

In fact, I bought in 2012 them before I started riding, because I found that I couldn't comfortably drive in ordinary wellies; they were so wide, that I could accidentally press on both the brake and accelerator at the same time.

I still wear them whenever my leather boots are away being re-soled, or for travelling to work when the paths are really muddy or flooded.

They are still going strong after seven years. Not at all bad for €12.

I got some woof wear one a few weeks ago, they took a few days but I find them pretty comfy now and grippy. Have only ridden in them once as I try to avoid riding in wellies but they are a big improvement on muck boots, which I loathed.
