Rude...But Interested....How Much Did You Spend On Your Saddle?

I CANNOT believe anyone paying THAT amount for a saddle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd like to start a new subsection

out of all these replies that quote seriously expensive saddles - HOW MANY OF THEM ARE either microchipped or branded or otherwise indelibly marked to they can be identified if stolen ??????!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Ideal Event - £300

Stubben Scandica Nova dressage saddle - £500

Double cantle western show saddle just under £400 - and yes, t'was a bargain.

Ruperts Passier dressage saddle was over 2000 but was made to measure for him, my stubben jumping saddle was 200 second/third/fourth hand! also got a couple of others between 200-1200

Well if you count mine amongst that definition, it is stamped by Albion with a unique ID number - but thats it, and it is only covered on my house insurance not my horse insurance

£775 brand new and made to fit pickle, as most others we tried on just were too low on his withers. Also the one we have now is an 18.5" seat!!!!!! thats HUGE (because my dad rides him!)

and presume you have that ID kept separately from the saddle in a safe place.

Asking 'cos last year Surrey police incinerated a load of stolen tack they'd recovered because NONE of it was marked.

and I do now LOTS of people who have paid £1000 plus for saddles and are too mean/idle/silly to spend a further £20 on having it security identified

and that puts ALL of our horse insurance premiums up AND our house insurance premiums up (as people claim for saddle thefts on house insurance)

Personally I think all saddles should be identimarked by the makers in the same way that trailer makers have now taken on board the theft problem and security mark their stuff when it is made.

i agree with you airendale some of these saddles are nearly double what i payed for my horse!

i know saddles are very important as a good saddle=healthy horse

i payed £90 for pretty much brand new thorogood griffin. there was no marks on girth starps and had obviously just been tired on and didnt fit!

i really want a leather saddle but realistically when they are £700+ its just not feasable

Jumping Barry Swain £1,550 new but got a s/h one at the last moment for £900. Absolutely fab, fab saddle. Brilliant, secure position. Doesn't look much, but I'd never have anything else.
Dressage £800. Heather Moffatt made to measure 1/2 synthetic with a plastic tree & a seatbone saver built in (as does the Barry Swain). Another superb saddle, has improved my position no end, horse loves it (as he does the Barry Swain), the built in seat saver takes most of the 'jar' out of riding.

All Devoucoux saddles come with their own coding, this coding can be checked with the manufacturer to identify the owner. Obviously this system only works if the people purchasing second hand ones notify Devoucoux. do know of instances when saddles have been returned to owners through this system.

Mine too are on my household insurance, I refuse to pay the horse premiums for saddlery, for and extra £16 per year on my household premium I get a better deal, granted would not be covered if the horse fell and broke the saddle but that is a risk I am prepared to take.

As for saddle costs I'm not prepared to say but more than some figures mentioned previously.

£850 for a bates caprilli close contact and it was worth every penny, until it was stolen. I got my replacement one yesterday, I can't believe it has effectively cost me £1700, makes me sick just thinking about it. And yes the stolen one is marked with a unique number that I have written down but it isn't going to help me get it back.
£295 for a 3yr old ideal jessica with flair, but it was stolen the day after I bought it

I've just purchased a Heather Moffett Fhoenix Dressage saddle for £1095. I want hem to hurry up and make it, they are the best saddles ever! Fit anything and are comfy as hell

about £1200 on event saddle and £1300 on dressage saddle from Woodseaves Saddlery, very very nice saddles and so comfortable for me and Pidge

Mine is not only microchipped it also has a tracker and is engraved with my postcode on every panel.

If it moves even 20 feet it can be 'watched'!

Too much!!

Yes, have to admit I'm a bit sad like that, I keep the receipt and tag with the ID number on with my horse insurance stuff - ironic since its on my house insurance, but there you go!

i had a stroke of luck at a tack sale and got mine in lovely condition and fits my mare a treat for £200!!
