For the past few months I have hated hacking on roads due to traffic but I know I need to and its a nice variety for my horse. I arrived at yard to see yard manager getting ready to go a hack with another livery whos horse is also new to hacking so I joined them.

There is one area on road where some cars are parked so others normally give way to on coming traffic. There is also a narrower lane by school.
We set off and at T junction I felt my boy Romeo tense up as traffic was coming from all sides and included big trucks etc. He did very well and we all pulled into driveway to let a bus by. Its only a villiage folks but boy was there traffic on way back and to top it all off we hit school colection time Oh joy

1st passing school cause the horses some relaxed interest shall we say while lots on children shouted hello horseys.
On the way back all horses coped well with parked and moving cars and queue behind as well as children etc in road.
Upon turning back onto wider road with no option but to really we pulled over a short way up to allow traffic by but as an oncoming car was turning in we were signalled to move on again.

Front rider and myself at back in high vis and i had flashing high vis on right arm that i use to signal too.

The horses coped very well passing a double decker and lorry with crane both who stopped and waited kindly at our request.

We were now past t junction but with a fair tail back as we were along side the parked cars where it goes to single lane rule and giving way.

I turned to the voice I could hear non stop to find not the driver but their passenger CHILD. Shouting "Hurry up" and "We are still here you know"

Oh are you I hadn't noticed. Where the heck did they think we thought they were and where were we supposed to go?
I appreciate hold ups are annoying but its not every turn you have to slow up for horses and we wanted out of the way just as much if not more.
The brat kept shouting this and the mother throwing her hands up in exasperation (really she should try keeping them on the wheel lol)
I shouted back. "WE HAVE JUST AS MUCH RIGHT TO BE HERE AS YOU!"
Then waved a thank you as they passed a moment later
REALLY I HATE the awful manners some drivers have.
But I am VERY happy at how well all our horse coped.
My next campain will be to get more signs in village and see about speed passing advice some how for passing motorists. Any ideas folks

I know it isn't convenient, but don't ride at school pick up times? Seriously, it is the worst time of day to be on a horse, mothers and fathers hurrying here, there and everywhere! I absolutely avoid it at all costs.

Ditto - people are understandably stressed and in a hurry, best avoided.

I have to agree. We always avoid riding past our local school, or the surrounding area, at starting or finishing time. IMO it is absolutely asking for trouble, and is actually pretty inconsiderate on the part of the rider. It's very good that your horses were all so well-behaved though.

It's not always possible to alter "your" life to suit "everyone" else's, I went out at 3.00pm on Thursday, because that was the time I ended up setting off, not a deliberate attempt to upset the school run, I just had to ride a little more "switched on" than usual, we don't have to regard ourselves as second class citizens and feel intimidated into altering our plans to suit others, we have as much right as anyone else to use the road at any time.

It's also not your fault some people bring their children up ignorant as s***t either.

I so enjoy your posts, you are speaking my language.

Where have the polite and nice mannered people gone. It's sad but I don't like todays people they seem to think only of themselves and their children are following suit

Here here We are not second class citizens But as a rule I know we avoid looking for trouble and riding at awkward times. As we all know its not just school run times that cause problems
The point here was how rude an adult allowed their child to be Its hard enough tolerating the normal idiot drivers without their off spring joining in lol
