rude people....

Taking stuff that doesn't belong to them and using it as their own. Something i despise.

Bought some new black gloves Sat, put them in a small box on the wall in our tackroom so they were out the way and i knew where they were.

Livery 1 was wittering about looking through said box Sun/Mon but i was a bit distracted so didn't pay much attention.

Went to look for my black gloves for my lesson last night only to find they weren't there, remembered livery 1 had been wittering on about looking through the box (which is our box and not anything to do with them so i'd like to know why they were looking in there in the first place).

So after my lesson went into feed room, and surprise surprise on their side on a white tub were my brand new gloves which had now been worn.

know what you mean iv had to put padlocks on most my stuff or it appears to grow legs..... but when u ask has any one seen my........... silence...... no one knows a thing!!!!!!!!!!

I have to lock everything up including my wheelbarrow so stop people abusing my posessions! It's SO annoying. I couldn't find my lovely showjumping whip for a show on Monday, had to borrow one. I found it when I came back in the YO's tack room as one of the grooms had seen it in there. I left it outside my stable last week, who do they think they are grrrrrrrrr couldn't agree with you more!!

Its posts like this that really make me happy that we all have padlocked tack lockers at our yard.

Totally agree though, it is unbelievably rude. Its weird how some people think its OK to just walk off with other people's things while the rest of us wouldn't dream of doing anything like that.

I know how you feel, I left a scarf on the wall IN my stable and it is gone, and bar Rocky turning camp and wearing a pink scarf I have no idea where it has gone and my water container has grown a pair of legs and walked off!! So I know what you mean I would say something. Dont you love it when someone borrows your wheelbarrow (that you paid for!) you turn up they are using it and and they say "sorry hope you dont mine me using your wheelbarrow" of course I mind but what are you supposed to say "yes I mind get your poop out of it!!" Sorry I buy my things for me and my horse not everyone else so know exactly where you are coming from!!

Can't see them getting me a new pair. I predict they will deny all knowledge to be honest but i am hopping mad about it.

They were NEW i hadn't even worn them myself yet!!!

I never touch their stuff and yet they seem to think its perfectly acceptable to go rooting around in ours, one of the things they took out the box for example was new hoof picks (our hoofpicks) which they then put out on the yard - if we wanted them on the yard WE would have put them there.

They are so disrespectful to me in particular and to be honest i find them hard to tolerate.

That is extremely rude!! I don't know how some people have the nerve. I have got my feed bin padlocked now as my chaff went missing and I have the really light stuff as my pony is a fat lump. Other things have mysteriously vanished as well.

Iknow how you feel,at my old yard had to padlock feed and even my stable as my shavings were walking a bale only lasted 2 days now they last a week!

Put one of those boxing gloves on a spring, in your tack box and the next time they go in - BAM.
LOL childish but effective.

Now that would be funny!

Also can't escape them by going to a show or out on a ride - as soon as they find out where we are going they make plans to come as well GRRRR!!

The gloves were not expensive ones but that is besides the point!!!

I would move something of thiers that they use quite often and put it somewhere else so they have to search for it (so it looks like someone borrowed it), Or just borrow something new of thiers and see how they like it. Again childish but I bet they won't like it, maybe it will make them think twice next time.

ohh move something that is a great idea. I can not stand people who do that. its not the point if they are expensive or not they still should not have used them!!!

I had to hide my tack cleaning stuff as one particular person was helping themselves, i felt like writing a note get your own!!!

Good luck

This is a problem at my yard too, I have to padlock my tools to my wheel barrow or it all goes walkies. Headcollars go, and even a pair of stubben spurs went once! I'd not used them for ages, went to the hook and they had gone! Then I noticed that they were in the girl who shares my lockers cupboard. I questioned her and she said that her loaner had given them to her for Christmas.......minus the box, which I had kept and shown her.......bloody cheek

Move something of theirs?

But i'm not a 'rude person'!!

Maybe i should make an exception...

Luckily we don't have a problem with yard tools, they all live outside the tack room and as the yard is so small its obvious where they are if they are not there.

I took my gloves back from their part of the feed room. Debated whether to or not but as they will get there before me today i thought i should before they hid them somewhere else!

I used to have to padlock everything at my old yard until one day I had enough and told them to p-off. They used to take everything from feed to my tack. When they used my brushes on their pony with a nasty skin rash I lost my temper, matrched round the yard and grabbed everything that was mine away from everyone else and threw it in my car. No one bothered me after that little outburst

Funny you should say that actually as i suspect they have nicked one of our brushes too (can't find it anywhere), boo hoo for them though as it was the brush we used to wash and scrub Saf's rainscald scabs

and would need seriously disinfecting before i would think about using it on anything other than Saf!

It comes down to lack of respect and idleness. I bought Star a new headcollar last December to 'celebrate' her safe return form Liverpool Vet Hospital after cancer surgery - pathetic, I know! It went missing last week and turned up yesterday with a broken throat clip - totally unuseable and now dangerous. Apparently, it was found down in the pony field. Wonder how it got down there when it HAD been hanging outside my stable.

Our yard is the same, i left a brand new bottle of mane and tail detangler outside my stable on the shelf, when i went to use it half had gone!! ive had girths stolen and loads of hoofpicks, in the winter it got soo bad with my feed going i left a note in the bin saying "If you cant afford to feed your horse please dont use mine ask and ill lend you a tenner to buy some!!" strange but no more food went!!

Not surprised you are furious. How utterly rude and disrespectul. I'd try to get paddlocks on things. And woud write signs on every box saying please do not touch.

I would be furious. I used to see it so much at the school/livery I used to work at. I am so relieved that I own my own land/stables now

They have no respect for me, never have done - to them in their minds i'm the yard 'skivvy'.

And whats mine is theirs. So they seem to think!

Lill it sounds like you need to put an adder in the box, they might think twice then!?!
shocked.gif

I’m sorry but it makes me so glad it’s just me, mum and Gina on our yard!

I had a classic!! Girl on my yard totally possessive about her stuff but anyone else's fair game, her horse was injured and she brought it in and started twittering about what to do ,so told her to get her first aid stuff.Had visitors at the time so wasn't really paying too much attention, but totally unprepared for her reply, which was "haven't got any I USE YOURS"!! From that moment on ,my stuff has been put out of her reach, there is a point you just get to when enough is enough.

Rule number one on a livery yard, buy containers big enough to padlock.
It's the only way, we ended up with some liveries drilling holes in the handles of their tools and fastening them to their wheelbarrows. It was so annoying when they went to use them and found them missing or full of poo.
I would make a comment about your gloves and ask outright if she borrowed them, if she admits it ask if she would like it if you borrowed brand new unused stuff of hers.
Some people need to be told.
I saw a smashing thing at the event on Sunday, a mobile tack locker on wheels. Lockable and enough room to hide all your tack plus some bits. I'd buy one or a tall cupboard you can lock.

I'm quite easy going about stuff, and let people borrow whatever, as long as they return it to its home, and don't break it.
Imagine my joy at one yard in Scotland, when I drove in to the car park, past the school. On going into the stables, I said 'Someone's left their lunging gear out in the rain'.
'Oh, that's yours' said the borrower!
shocked.gif

Same borrower asked to have my cavesson, lunge line and whip, and have the school to herself to lunge...I obligingly lunged my TB in the stubble field next to the school, in a headcollar with a rope....and she complained that my mare's feet brushing through the stubble were upsetting her horse.
grin.gif

To be fair, though, this was all an outward symptom of her fear of her horse...she bought a big 3yo Warmblood that she couldn't cope with.
