Rude rude and rude people :(

I've seen much worse than that on youngsters kept in barns over the winter. When I was younger I remember that it only used to come of when the ponies started moulting!

You almost certainly won't be able to brush it off, but it may soften and come off if you give him a warm bath.

Your boy is gorgeous by the way - such a handsome face, what's his breeding?

Try pliers to crack any really hard bits of mud.
Baby oil within an inch if horses life. Leave half an hour or so then bath. Use your nails in a circular motion and plenty of shampoo. If possible go over him after you've got the majority off with a damp micro-fibre cloth.
Some parts may need scissors but it'll grow :).

GORGEOUS !!!! i would estimate two/ three gentle baths with warm water and a good shampoo will get that lot off. I would also try a gromming blade thingy, little at a time.

Anyone who says something like that about ANY horse is NOT a horsewoman or man. They may think they are, with their big posh TB's and hunters, don't you know, but nope. They are snobs.

And I speak from experience !

His sire is thorneyside the magic man and his dam is Eglwysfach brenhines. His proper name is Abermad Merlyn :)

Right so hopefully tomorrow ill get some baby oil and some sunshine so he can have a bath :D

Yup, shedding blade. i would also try and cut the worst off where you can - it'll grow back in no time. If he was mine, i would dilute a good shampoo (deosect is my favourite, for example) into a bucket of warm water, and then sponge it on, and leave it, until you can feel the caking begin to soften. It may not come off in one go, hence a couple of baths may be needed.

Next time you see the 'lady' in question, smile sweetly and say 'I've found you a bucket and sponge, seeing as you found my just-picked-up-from-a-manky-barn horse so distasteful, feel free to give him a wash!' :D

yikes - you should of seen the state of my baby welsh d when i got him, but he's the proverbial swan, sod the nasty people - beauty is in the eye of us beholders

Just say at least all he needs is a bit of water and a brush ..... how much is a face lift these days ? .......

personally I would go for the F Off

Didnt read all the thread, but how can she say "look at the state of that" and not be jealous ( saw the picture) he is gorgous, she will be sooo jealous when he gets his summer coat and has a nice scrub :) Diamond in the rough (not that rough! Imo)

I agree with others-the nasty cow is jealous,as he is stunning, even in his dirty state! She will be suuuuuuper-jealous when he's scrubbed up,so I hope you get home soon,as she'll no doubt have more mean things to say when his real gorgeousness is revealed! :)

Jeesh, mine looks worse than that on a daily basis! :p

What a beautiful-looking little chap... I think you've bagged yourself a little corker there. Said woman will be green with envy in a few weeks, methinks! Congratulations :D

Welsh - just saw your post - mine also has Nebo/ Derwen lines on sire's side - thorneyside on dam's side.

Sorry - I find this very interesting! And am sadly excited about hearing about Jay's distant relatives! Hehe :D

@Carojay, I just googled Thorneyside The Boss and he's legendary, what an awesome looking boy! I love snooping through the Welsh D bloodlines lol

Welsh - I don't know why I hadn't thought of googling him before! He's really beautiful! If I could work out photo bucket I would post a picture of Jay (also beautiful :) )!
