Sorry to be yet another person asking for rug advice but you're all so helpful!

My retired horse Inca needs a new turnout, something around 300g - 350g in 6'. She's quite fine as mostly TB but a little hardier as part Connemara also. She's in this weight rug now and is nice and snug but the rug was a cheap, unknown brand and always slips and rubs her slightly at the front. It also looks a bit short on her so I would like to replace it.

This time I am looking to buy a better, well known brand rug, something like Weatherbeeta or Shires, but not sure what is best for the more TB shaped horses? I have marked Weatherbeeta down as the brand to buy for my bigger ISH but perhaps these would be too broad for Inca?

A neck would be nice on it but not a must and I wouldn't really want to spend over the £70 mark. Any help or advice is appreciated as I don't want to spend more on a rug to find it doesn't suit her shape. Thanks!

Weatherbeetas suit my TB but he is a chunky TB and has big shoulders and a broad chest.
I have a Mark Todd for him which is a little snug round the front and an Amigo which also is not as generous so they might suit yours if she is a little finer.

Hi - we're all after rugs! My Pure bred Arab has a Weathabeeta and fits him great, always bought them. They come with/without hoods. I prefer a detachable hood then I can swap it to any and all.

my tb has 3 weatherbeeta rugs and its only the old makes which really fit her well. the taka however is bloomin awful fitting on her however others it fits loverly on. i do find though that my masta standard fits really really well on her, covers her in all the right places haha

sorry im not much help but i would go off any brands of rugs what you already have that fit her well. in my experiance it all depends on the horse individually

I would recommend the horseware rugs, brilliant fit for tb types! Rambo's are they're most expensive range of rugs and great quality and in my opinion well worth the money but their amigo range is also very good!

I reckon you'd get an amigo heavyweight for about £100? (bit of a guess though!!). All my tbs HW rugs are Rambos but his MW and LWs are all amigos and still as good IMO. Plus they're much cheaper than Rambos! They never slip, breathable and pretty tough on the outer. Horseware also do a range of rugs called rhino, never used these but should imagine they're excellent too.

I have mine in a Weatherbeeta landa, it fits him well enough even though it was bought for a chunky warmblood. Slips a bit though as I don't use leg straps.
I swear by Fal rugs but they are pretty expensive. But they fit every horse and never slip and last for years.
or you could try masta, they tend to be a bit narrower than other rugs - they do a cheaper version (zing) which is reasonable quality.

My TB is only 3 so fairly narrow but she has a weathbeeta and it fits her fine, she is 6 ft as well.I find them good on most shapes. Got one on My Arab too.

Got 2 TB which are of quiet different shape and both waer Horseware Rambos which have lasted years and never rubbed and fit well. However, on the expensive side as far as rugs are concerned.

Interesting I think mine is the other way round as my Taka is brilliant on Frankie but the old Landa rubs a bit.

my TB had horseware, rhino, amigo, rambo - never rubbed or slipped, i thoroughly recommend. i like weatherbeetas but i use them on my arab or appaloosa as they fit their wider chests better. but for my tb - horseware all the way!

Interesting what you say Eventing09 - I have 2 really old Weatherbeetas and they fit SOOOO much better than the newer ones. The quality of the buckles is also better on the old ones. All of the buckles etc broke on my new one within 12months.

My TB is quite narrow but has deep shoulders and the Jumpers Horse Lines/Mark Todd ones seem to fit well. The Jumpers Horse Lines ones are not that expensive either. He has just got a new one after 5 years hard wear out of the first one.

I would recommend an Amigo or if you can afford it Rhino which come with detachable necks. These fit my TB well and are good quality for the price - never known them to slip either. Now if money were no object I would go for a Fal pro silver....never known a rug to insulate so well in such cold weather!

My weatherbeetas do come up slightly big but saying that do fit my WBxTB ok. Would choose a horsewear rug in preference tho....

My friend has a very fine tb and she wears amigos and derby house own and both fit her really well.

But premier equine have a sale on and their rugs are fab and only £56!

My TB has only weatherbeeta, the only rug brand that seems to fit him well. All his rugs are the freestyle shape, not the old style. He doesn't have a really broad chest but certainly not a narrow one.

I have found the horseware ones fit him the worst. So from reading the above posts I think it's a try it and see method of finding the right rug. See what brands your friends have, to save on the cost of having to buy lots and getting it wrong! But then of course there's always eBay for those unwanted ones....!

Good luck!
