What are the best brands to buy for a pony that has a small chest, i have a cottage craft especially made for ponys and it just hangs off his shoulders, fits lovely everywhere else, can someone recomend me a heavy weight turnout with a pony with no chest.
He's in a 5'0

thanks

Possibly daft question, but have you tried him in a 4'9"? My mare came to me with a 5' rug as that is what she'd measured and I had the same problem, so she wears a smaller size, which is much better.

Otherwise, I would take the rug you have to a repairer (unless you have a sewing machine, of course) and put in an extra fastening higher up. That or adjust the wither, but we're getting into technical sewing, there!!

We have the same problem. Our pony has a Mark Todd pony heavyweight combo turnout that fits him really nicely-ours is 5'0 and you certainly wouldn't want to go down a size in it.

His Amigo stable rug (the quilted sort) with detachable neck also fits him very well,as does his Amigo 1200D no-fill turnout (detachable neck also).
His Cottage Craft ones fit ok but do gape a little bit at the front,so I know what you mean. If we'd gone down a size, they'd be too short:(

I'd like to try the new pony range from Premier Equine(maybe when one of his current rugs dies a death!)and see how they fit.

Just bought my little pony a Mark Todd (he's also 5ft) one and I'm very impressed with the fit around his chest as he's quite narrow and I find a lot of the cheaper rugs slip back and end up behind his withers. He also had a lovely thick WeatherBeata one but sadly it didn't come back with him when he came back from the riding school :(

Rhino pony rugs.

They come up smaller than the same size in a Rhino non-pony rug (I have a 5'6 in both pony and horse styles) and the pony one is fab for narrow youngsters, so I can imagine that it would be great for a narrow pony.

Second the Rhino pony rugs

I have a narrow chested welshie and apart from the Rhino I find that Shires and Loveson rugs fit him very well.

Weatherbeeta seem to be on the small side so to get the length right I had to go up a size and then they wouldnt fit around the neck. Amigos I found slipped and the quality seemed poor

my british riding pony had this problem with every rug he had so I just put some darts in the neck, i didnt have a sewing machine so used a large plaiting needle and thread and a pair of pliers to help pull needle through material. Ive never had one come undone and you can do both sides in under 30 mins.
