Rug clip caught in fence

I only use rugs with fillet straps at the back now after my friends little exmoor pony getting a clip attached to the fence. He was 40 at the time and in his efforts to get free slipped in the mud and fell against the fence, stuck fast. I found him in the morning, cold and exhausted from his struggle. Fortunately I was able to cut the rug free and after sitting with him for about an hour and warming him up a bit he got to his feet. He recovered and lived for another 18 months but it was an accident that could have been avoided.

Threading a piece of electric tape through the chest of the rug does do a great job of restoring the connection to naughty horses that have worked out the rug insulates the current and push onto or through electric fence when they're rugged.

Mine is a weatherbeeta and it comes with the clip buckled on. I took clip off and use 2 carabina clips that screw to keep it done up so they cant get clipped on to anything. I clip it to the buckle and the triangle loop. My other pet hate is fillet straps with clips on as have had to horses clip themselves to a fence by these whilst rubbing their tail.
