Does anyone have any ideas/tips on brands of rugs that fit narrower horses ? My youngster (14 months) is an mainly arab, about 14.2 and obviously still quite narrow chested. As he is still growing ( I have been through 5'3", 5'6" and now onto 5'9" with him already) I don't want to spend a fortune on rugs, so tend to try to buy when they are on special rather than sticking to one brand. I am now finding that the Weatherbeeta style sits low on his shoulders and a Masta is quite low on his chest and started rubbing.
Any ideas on brands that might suit him better ?

Not sure about Arab types but have found Amigos to be a good fit on my narrow-shouldered TBx... might be worth a look

The narrow horses I know tend to be in Rambos... but would imagine that the Amigo would have a similar cut and is basically the cheaper version of the Rambo

Oh, actually, Jumper Horse Line would be an excellent bet, excellent quality but sensibly priced and fit narrow horses extremely well.

Thank you - off to look at some websites and sneak another rug under hubbies "more stuff for horses" radar....

(The secret is to take the labels off, put it in an old bag, then into the attic and ask him to get it down again a few days later - "this old thing ? I've had it ages.... anyway honey, what can I get you for dinner..." )

I've found the amigo's much more generous than the rhino's or the rambo. The ones with the V-clip fasten fronts seem to be much narrower (amigo's have the T-bar fastening).

I think Rambo's are narrower than Amigo's. My horse has huge shoulders and I can not get a Rambo near her but the Amigo's fit her fine.

There are a couple of arabs at my yard and they are in Shires if thats any help.

I have a narrow shouldered horse and the only turnout rug he's ever had that fits well is an ancient kingshead one that I have to keep having repaired and reproofed every spring, but it always keeps him warm and dry and never moves or rubs where others have. Not sure where you can get them now as you don't see them very often. He also has a couple of shires stable rugs that fit great, but their turnout one had huge shoulders. Jumpers horse line stable rugs also seem to be narrow.

If you can't find a narrower rug to fit your horse then simply get your saddler to insert a couple of darts round the front to take up some of the slack of your existing or newly purchased too wide rug.
It's a VERY common job I used to do on site round stables and takes about 10 mins!

Lucky lad is now snuggled in an Amigo, and I have managed to pick up a nice end-of-line Mark Todd one as well, as a spare. They both fit much better, and he seems very comfortable.

Thanks guys.

Keep an eye out for Premier Equine rugs too. Fitted my TB really well as made to be high on shoulder but still nice and deep in body
