Looking to buy a lightweight rug for 16.2 warmblood type. Had terrible trouble finding a suitable heavyweight rug to replace old secondhand Masta which had caused really bad rug rub on his withers as it was slipping back. First tried a new 5'9" Masta which fitted along wither to tail, if anything a little big. However, chest straps were nowhere near meeting - about 7" apart. Now in Equiline 6'3" which is too big along top but can be held together at chest because it has adjustable straps and clips. However, belly straps are right behind his front legs and leg straps are a bit taught for my liking as they're attached to rug so far forward.

Which new rug would you recommend?

My 16.2 short backed ISH wears 6ft 3 Amigo rugs, no leg straps to worry about, they are just right round his shoulders so no rubbing and plenty deep enough so they never move despite his antics, a 6ft may do for yours.
I find Mastas move about too much and need the leg straps which I prefer to remove from any rugs that have them, the Mark Todd rugs are fairly good but most of the horses here are in Amigo or other Horseware rugs they just seem to fit most, other than heavy cobs, really well.

I find masta rugs don't fit anything with a shoulder. Weatherbeeta, shires or amigo may be better suited. I tried an amigo on my short backed mare today and found the next size up fits perfectly (she's usually 6ft - the 6"3 fitted really well) she's usually 6ft in weatherbeeta and shires if this helps.

Horseware, fal, bucas.
Basically you get what you pay for.
I found mastas too big in the chest area resulting in it slipping back.
Won't use them now on my tb.

I use derby house on my short backed, wide chested cob. They fit him beautifully, roomy around his chest but still stay up over his withers. Anything else is too long and too tight!
