Got up to yard this afternoon to find friends youngster with no rug, thought it odd that he would of gone out with no rug today as gale force winds and rain so took a look in field. Found the rug in a wet muddy ball in middle of field! All straps done up including neck cover so god knows how he'd got out of it!

IME it's not the horse's fault. The wind can blow rugs off horses - I've seen it happen twice.

The horse stands with it's bum into the wind (as they do) the wind lifts the back of the rug and the fillet string over the haunches. The next gust takes it over the head and the horse then has to carefully step out backwards from the cross surcingles. This is why I use rugs with leg straps in windy conditions. If your rug has leg straps and he still got it off, then he is a true Houdini! ;)

Impressive stuff!! I seem to remember my boy getting out of his really old stable rug years and years ago. No idea how he managed it. He then spent the night jumping up and down on it in a pile of poo. How nice of him.

Bramble managed to get out of his a couple of weeks ago.
In the stable with chest straps, surcingles and leg straps all fully done up. Pooed on and trodden in. Was not impressed, haha.

My pony has to have leg straps on her turnout rugs. She has no tail and a gust of wind flies the whole thing onto her back, then over her neck. She's also funny about anything flapping near her head and is generally head shy so she is distraught! Thankfully she isn't a rug wrecker normally and has left her leg straps in one piece and the rug on her back!

Yup had this one last week youngster naked and rug straps done up in the field she is now sporting one with leg straps and so far hasnt got it off the other pony had to be rescued and a fillet string attached to her rug when the elastic in her leg straps stretched in the wind and blew it over her head then held it there. So please be careful if you have elastic leg straps on your rugs they look practical but are dangerous she now has both on her rug a fillet string and the leg straps Fortunately I was there and she didnt panic when she couldnt see but it may well have happened with no one around
