rug hunting for the arkward one.

looking for a new lightweight turnout for the small one trouble is he is a funny shape.

He is only 11 hands but a long sod (5ft), narrow chest & high set neck. he also has issues with things behind him but dues to his height most leg straps/fillet strings hang too low on 5ft rugs.


so im looking for a 5ft shallow rug with a very high cut short neck & high set or no leg/fillet setting.

most pony rugs that are cut for smallies stop at 4ft 9" & that leaves his bum exposed.

any ideas greatly welcomed as im fed up of spending money on rugs & then spending a couple of hours on the sewing machine adjusting them to fit him cos then they have weak points for the wet to get in (& its a real kick having to get brand new rugs reproofed)

anyone else have this issue & how do you geet around it?

The Horseware Rhino pony range goes up to 5'6" and are not as deep as the 'horse' Rhino range. Also Saxon rugs can be a bit 'mini-skirt' like so they might be good for your boy.

Amigo's are pretty good. Never found one that I couldnt put on a skinny chested youngster, so should work fine for your boy

brilliant, thanks guys will be off to the tack shop tomorrow & asking for those rugs out to have a look at their sizings. ive never been brave enough to ask them to get every 5ft rug out the packaging so i can have a look.

Lay a rug that fits him out like this

and measure it. Depth, length and from the withers to the tail. Take your tapemeasure to the tack shop and measure their rugs.

now that is much simpler than trying to measure ole twitchy tit himself.

Ditto the amigo

Mysti has the exact same problems! Amigo is the only one i have where the leg straps are in the right place and she doesnt get her boobs out!
