Hi all (I hope this hasnt posted twice) have moved to a new livery yard and need to label my rugs with something quickly visible so was thinking of some cow ear tags, but they only seem to come in large amounts, and i only need six, has anyone got any good ideas? many thanks

Why do you need to label them? For the staff to know which one is which or to prevent them going walkies? If the latter, I'd put a big mark on the back of the rug with paint, if the former I'd only leave the ones you wanted the horse to wear in an accessible place and put all the others away.

I recently re-stocked on some rugs as mine were so old they weren't waterproof any more. I bought second hand PE rugs so had to get whichever colours were being offered. I wasn't impressed at having to buy an orange checked one and a bright purple and green one (all my others have been navy) but it's brilliant, I can recognise each rug straight away! From now on, I'm going to colour code all my rugs according to weight as I replace them. 0g is navy, 50g is purple, 100g is orange. I doubt I'll ever need to buy a 200g rug again as Wiggy is a really hot horse but I'll have to find a good colour for that if I do!

If its just for identification I use cable ties for mine and colour code everything.
Works for most things, rugs, brooms, hoof picks, buckets etc. Just snip the ends off neatly and they're pretty obvious but don't get in the way.

bit of both really, all of the horses are roughly the same size, so this should sort it out a bit .

Cattle ear tags. You can heat up a metal skewer and poke a hole in the female side of the tag then attach with a zip tie. It's how I label kennels as well now! We have lovely lilac tags currently
