Hi,

I have a really good rug on one of my horses that has to live out. She gets ridden every day and just with wear and tear, muck, and putting rugs on and off the Velcro straps that close her neckpiece have no stickiness left on them so the neckpiece doesn’t close. The rug otherwise is in perfect condition and it wasn’t the cheapest so not pushed to get a new one but really need to close the neckpiece so rain doesn’t get in. Any ideas of a DIY job I could do to keep it closed?

Do you have a small wire brush at home? If so, you could try carefully cleaning out both sides of the "touch & close" fastening. It's often a mixture of hay and horse hair that bungs up the closure, so once you clean that out, you'll hopefully find it's closing more securely. Plan B will be to buy some replacement T&C from eBay and sew it on to the rug - very cheap - or find a rug repairer to replace it for you. 😊🪡

Agree with everyone else - I revived an old flymask with a velcro brush. If not, my next solution would be buying some replacement velcro parts to stitch on. Would still be much cheaper than a new neck cover

Trouble is that unless you have an industrial sewing machine its not easy to sew through rug material, needles on normal sewing machines just won't cut it, they are not strong enough.
